I don't get it.
posted at 01:01 pm on 09-11-2009

Why does somebody come to a site and immediately start complaining? If I'm on a site for awhile, get to know people, and then suddenly start having problems with a person or group of people, then I'll complain. But if someone shows up at a site not knowing anybody, why is it worth complaining about? Why not just go to another site? It's only worth trying to do something about a problem at a site if you like the site to begin with, isn't it?
I understand that a lot of people come to WP a bit scarred and paranoid, having been repeatedly rejected.. but isn't the more reason to be nice at the new site? Do people think they're going to get people to like them by being mean?? Do they just want to cause trouble? WHY? And why is that question considered wrong? Is it actually wrong to try to understand why someone is bothered by something? Is it wrong to try to figure out if they're actually having a problem or being a problem? How does one go about doing that without being accused of being the problem themselves? I've found that I can understand, to some degree, probably 90% of the people on this site. I figure that sometimes, aggressiveness-bordering-on-trolling comes from prior rejection. I want to get to know those people, but how do I do that if anything I say is considered an attack or an insult? I know they're expecting to be insulted, but how do I be accepting of someone who is insulting ME?
