Why not go to bed mad?
posted at 12:23 am on 04-15-2009

I am sick of this asinine cliche. I'm sick of a lot of them, actually. But this idiotic formula spouted by so many smug do-gooders has me irked today. Maybe it's because I've been mad for several hours and intend to go to bed that way. I don't suppose it's considered the ideal, but after a night's sleep, I feel so far removed from the previous day that I stand a much better chance of letting something go. The ugly, unkind things I would say if backed into a corner would complicate the following day far more than a prolonged sulk and sleep.

And besides, how can you ever make your point when the other party always finds a reason that it's not their fault?

I'll feel better tomorrow.

Drivers

I am certain that there is something blowing through the air vents of cars these days that makes people go mad. If it is not so, then on the road there are millions of people with no bloody excuse for how unspeakably they behave day after day to each other. It has gotten so bad for me that the very fact that someone is behind me in traffic gets me feeling angry. Once I see them, I am already following the most likely course of events in my head, any number of slight variations on: Car enters lane, driver speeds up to chosen speed or merely speeds up for as long as possible before arriving at car ahead, either way upon arriving at said car, does not slow until well within safe following distance, most likely well within said distance, sometimes even shockingly close to rear bumper, settles there to teach slower driver a lesson, to force slower driver to increase speed, or simply out of that knuckle-walking pig-ignorant sheep-like stupidity that says it's the right distance to follow because the rest of the drivers are doing the same thing. Tension build in tail-gated driver but if all goes well, eventually idiot driver behind finally gets a space to one side and zips around slower driver as if to further "show" said driver how fast a car can actually go on that road. Now speeding driver accelerates while slower driver smugly awaits the inevitable brake lights as said idiot speeder finds out that they, like the slower driver, can only go so fast when the rest of traffic is slow. Speedy driver proceeds to tailgate the entire rush hour. Rudeness, stupidity, incivility, power games. I'd dearly love to see these peoples' faces if they saw video of someone acting in person the way they do in cars. I may later expound upon my views of the SUV and the way people take out their aggressions by using their huge cars to bully the unsuspecting drivers in front of them.
