My mom is throwing a slight fit over my health even though I feel perfectly fine so I guess I'll come here and see if it's just her making a big deal or if I am missing the whole picture.
I have lost a lot of weight in the last few months, when I went into the doctors office I weighed 96 pounds, but a few days ago when I weighed myself (on 3 different machines cause I was not sure if it was a weird mistake..) but I weighed to be 80.1 pounds which means I dropped about sixteen pounds since my last physical which was back in May which is six months ago so I mean its been 6 month since I have been to the doctor but I haven't changed my diet, have not been overly active or anything and generally when I go to the doctors i weigh in between 92-96 pounds, and even in a six month span I went from 96 to 94 and that wasn't so bad but my mom is flipping out over this drastic of a jump.
I have been extremely exhausted lately as well, I think it has been from stress. Though I seem to get a lot of amount of sleep, about 8 hours a day, and then I take 2 hour naps during the day because my body just gets so exhausted sometimes and my Mom is convinced it's something serious but I think she is overreactiing.
I checked my BMI and it says I am at 16.3 idk if that is good or bad... but it doesn't seem awful (I'm 4'11) |

| It sounds like your mom's concern is very valid. I would say 80 pounds is way too little, whether you lost a weight to get to that point or whether you been there to start with. Also, typically it takes a lot of effort to lose weight, so since you lost it all on your own without doing anything, it means your body might malfunction. There are various diseases that can cause that. One, for example, involves some insects living in your stomach. So I suggest you check yourself for those. |

That is bad!!! especialy if you have not done anything to lose weight, but you have lost that much anyway. A bmi of 16 is considered underweight, and even that the bmi calculation is not so accurate, that fact that you have lost that much weight and are extremely exhausted, your mom is right, you should take that serious!!!
That is NOT stress, something is out of wack, like your thyroid or something, and it could very easly be something serious! _________________ http://toddsphotos.smugmug.com

Yeah it sounds like your mum has reasons to be concerned. That's clearly underweight. It would probably b a good idea for you to go and see the doctor. |

I agree that you should see a doctor. 96 pounds doesn't sound too unreasonable for someone who is 4'11", but 80 pounds is too little.
The fact that you lost that weight without changing your eating habits sounds like your body isn't absorbing the nutrients properly. That would also explain why you are exhausted. You really ought to go get checked out. |

I would be concerned as well.
There are diseases and things that cause weight loss. Tumor or cancer can cause changes as well. It doesn't hurt all that much to get checked out anyway. It would give you and mother both a better feeling to know that nothing is wrong. Better safe than having a serious problem.
Fatigue and weight loss can mean alot of problems or just nothing. A list of a few things fatigue related. Could just be stress related though.
| Quote: |
* A decrease in the amount of oxygen-carrying substance (hemoglobin) found in red blood cells (anemia).
* Problems with the heart, such as coronary artery disease or heart failure, that limit the supply of oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle or the rest of the body.
* Metabolic disorders, such as diabetes, in which sugar (glucose) remains in the blood rather than entering the body’s cells to be used for energy.
* Problems with the thyroid gland, which regulates the way the body uses energy.
o A low thyroid level (hypothyroidism) can cause fatigue, weakness, lethargy, weight gain, depression, memory problems, constipation, dry skin, intolerance to cold, coarse and thinning hair, brittle nails, or a yellowish tint to the skin.
o A high thyroid level (hyperthyroidism) can cause fatigue, weight loss, increased heart rate, intolerance to heat, sweating, irritability, anxiety, muscle weakness, and thyroid enlargement.
* Kidney disease and liver disease, which cause fatigue when the concentration of certain chemicals in the blood builds up to toxic levels.
Chronic fatigue syndrome is an uncommon cause of severe, persistent fatigue.
If fatigue occurs without an obvious cause, it is important to evaluate your mental health. Fatigue is a common symptom of mental health problems, such as anxiety or depression. |

96 pounds to 80 pounds? Look at it this way - in six months time, you lost over 16% of your total body weight without dieting or exercise. In comparison, it took me over 18 months with both changes to my diet and increased exercise to lose 25% of my original weight (down to 240 from 325). To compare apples to apples (or apples to apple juice, at least), then: in the six months in which you lost 16% of your original weight without effort, I lost 8% of my original weight with relatively significant changes. (Admittedly, this is not a perfect comparison - you lost 16 pounds while I lost almost 30 in that same span of time, but I am focusing on weight relative to each of us, since there is a huge difference between 4'11" and 6'4"!) This screams that a change in health or illness could be related. It might be stress, might be food absorption issues, might be any of a huge assortment of things... but you need to see a doctor.
