LADY'S: What's attractive about a jerk?
In what ways is this appealing? |

I'm a lady and I am not attractive to them. I don't like them and don't want one in a relationship or as a friend. But sadly I didn't know my last two were them. I thought my last boyfriend was brutally honest and I thought I could educate him about things he was purely ignorant about and he change his mind like I do when I am ignorant of stuff. Sometimes I forget others don't think the same as I do.
With my first ex I felt sorry for him and I knew he was lazy and wanted others to take care of him but I didn't know he was an ass. I had already broken up with him but realized later on he was a jerk. _________________ I'm a Peach

this should be interesting...grabbin' some popcorn to enjoy the show.
Maybe it should be rephrased as 'why do some ladies seem to like what we think are jerks?"
just a thought |

I've know a few people I would call jerks, but I don't know if I would use the word attractive. I think exciting would be a better word. There is just something about a person who has the guts to say smart a** things and not care what anyone thinks about it. They give me the giggles. It is like having a live stage performance right in front of me. I cannot help but be interested. And I am just talking about your every day jerk, not people who are profane or abusive...I don't find those types interesting or exciting at all... _________________ On with the show...This is it. |

I'm a femme and I'm not attracted to jerks but what I observe in THEORY is this: Jerks have some tendency to get noticed in life, in jobs, and they generally make an all out scene(overall) if they make it big. So women that don't know it, want to also succeed in life, so their lil' bodies say to them "hey, he's 'successesful' (jerk) so I should persue him" Or, the other theory, some women want to have the opportunity to change people, and they think that they can change the way a person behaves, sometimes they can, most of the times they can't . Just theories, yanno, based on my not very much experience. Women seem to like the group leaders, and I guess a lot of leaders can be considered jerks (school groups, etc) probably because people are afraid of them . wow, i'm probably really wrong but I just wanted to say that in a very unedited paragraph. |

Nothing.
Even as a teen I wasn't into "jerks" or guys who came off as competitive and/or fake with a one set goal. _________________

| This is asked over and over on WP... Instead of asking "Why do nice guys finish last?" wouldn't it be better to ask "Where can I find girls who are NOT into jerks?" |

That would imply taking personal initiative. I'd much rather sit around and wait for life to shower me with meaning. ;P
Seriously though, you may be reasonably sure that no one's introspection on preferences will ever be quite accurate. _________________ * here for the nachos. |

That actually makes a little more sense in theory since it expands on the word jerks and with the word attractive together. _________________

Sometimes parents (moms and dads) are jerks, and their children go with what they know. |

PROTIP: "Jerk" is submissive male code for dominant male behavior. _________________ * here for the nachos. |

^ Interesting point.
Perhaps it's how that dominance is achieved that is more pertinent to the way "jerk" is being used the context of this thread.
As HaliaTotheres said, if a person achieves dominance by exhibiting traits that are pertinent to the subject or task at hand (such as knowing how to fix a computer or a car, or stepping into a vacant organizational or leadership position) and is receiving positive attention because of it, then that person might spawn feelings of envy in someone less capable and thus be labeled a "jerk." However, someone ELSE would find those same qualities quite attractive!
If a person seeks to achieve dominance with behavior such as talking the loudest, consuming the most alcohol, engaging in life-threating behavior, cursing the most, beating people up, being a bully or a "rebel without a cause" . . . . I think this might be what the OP meant by "jerk." And yeah, I would label a person like that a "jerk," too. And no, I would personally not be attracted to it. |
