| Yeh, I just received a copy of "Communication" - the UK National Autistic Society (NAS) magazine.... in the new edition they are advertising Autism Speaks, and reporting on how a former UK Prime Minister, John Major, had spoken at one of their fundraising events. I'd hate to think this charity was getting a foothold in the UK, let alone recognition from an organisation like the NAS... anyone else who's an NAS member in the UK, please write to them and tell them you don't want them supporting Autism Speaks. |

I saw a commercial for them, saying they support Autism Speaks - I wanted to vomit. Oh, and White Castle also supports Autism Speaks. _________________ -Gil |

| From what I've read I hate Autism speaks. They don't do any good for anyone. |

Is it just me or are they suddenly everywhere? Here is a list of their corporate "partners:"

Apparently you can get a special Autism Speaks Zippo lighter, pretzel, and checking account now. Gosh, I can't wait until I get my check in the mail from all this fund-raising! Maybe I could get something to eat besides Xanax. |

The sad thing is these companies who partner with them really have no idea about autism and aspergers and think Autism speaks are doing the right thing as opposed to being conservitive wankrags who try and weed out autism. _________________ The www will take you to paradise. |

Perhaps we need to circulate a petition condemning Autism Speaks' work, and send it to their corporate sponsors, letting them know what they really are supporting.
Edit: I just realized the logistics of the above suggestion might fail, as few of us on here know each other in RL. Perhaps a letter-writing campaign might be better, also, if enough of us were involved, it would be much harder to ignore. In this case, paper is better.

The need many people have to spend large amounts of cash on baubles made from gold and gemstones at places such as Zales puzzles me. _________________ "When there's no 'there' to get to, we're so there!" |

| Oh, damn. We're with BOA. First bank I've ever liked. Now I feel like we need to switch banks...ugh. Maybe I will just go in and talk to the manager about the damage Autism Speaks does. If enough people did that, maybe it would become an issue corporate would look into. |

| Letting the companies know what we think would be a start. I don't know about anyone else but it would be hard for me to live out the rest of my life without doing business with any of these corporations. And boycotts don't necessarily work very well. |

I do agree with this, though.
I don't "boycott" anything, unless I dislike the product or person to begin with. _________________ My site: Thoughts of an Autistic (last updated August 2009) |

If only one or two of us write, they wouldn't care so much, however if we are able to get many members of our site to write, and to put specific examples of WHY Autism Speaks does more harm than good, then they would start to listen. Companies with these types of programs generally do care for the greater good, they just tend to not do so much research on the charities* beforehand. They figure if the charity is big, it's probably doing good.
