Matter of fact, I don't think I've ever made a post I regretted more. It's been bothering me, so I want to retract it and apologize to those I've offended and offend some other people instead. <br /> <br />I'm not sure how I managed to say so much that was wrong in a two sentence post. The second sentence wasn't even a sentence. Guess I just couldn't resist the perfect straight line; an announcement on Wrong Planet that Autism Speaks was sponsoring a NASCAR race. <br /> <br />So anyway, I don't like car racing because I don't like noisy machines. I'm not an absolute Luddite, but I come pretty close. I don't like cooked carrots either, but that doesn't mean that there's anything wrong with them. <br /> <br />There's a lot of things in this world I don't understand. I can't understand why somebody would want to watch a NASCAR race, or why somebody would like one race car driver better than another, or for that matter, why somebody would like one football team better than another. <br /> <br />I'm not being a snob here, since I also can't understand why somebody would like one classical music composer better than another, or one orchestra better than another. To me, that stuff all sounds the same. <br /> <br />But anybody who gets to be among the best in anything has a mastery of it as an art form. There's thousands of people who would love to take their place, but they aren't able too. <br /> <br />It's difficult to imagine, but I suppose there may even be people who can't understand why I would like one poet better than another, or one Chinese calligrapher better than another, since superficially they're all doing the same thing. <br /> <br />So it clearly isn't accurate to say that NASCAR drivers and fans are dumbasses. More generally, it also isn't accurate to say that rednecks are dumbasses. Anybody who thinks rednecks are dumb shouldn't have any problem at all figuring out how to fix the transmission on their own car, and when they get done with that they can figure out how to build their own house. <br /> <br />Okay, this is an issue with me because I've had a lot more success at being an aspie redneck than being an aspie academic. Being a successful academic means you gotta be able to sound intelligent. Being a successful redneck means you gotta be able to do something intelligently in an arena where your ability to make an impression is irrelevant. Lot of the time, anyway. <br /> <br />Beyond this, I don't think I should be putting somebody down for being a dumbass even if they are a dumbass. Ridiculing somebody because their brain doesn't work very well is no different than ridiculing somebody because the muscles in their legs don't work very well. <br /> <br />The only exception I'd make is feminists, who invariably force their stupidity down other people's throats and use it as a justification for making innocent people suffer. <br /> <br />I also ain't all that outraged about Autism Speaks. I think I briefly checked out their website a while back, but I wasn't all that interested. I ain't one of those anti-cure types because my life as an aspie totally sucks. I don't see how it's even theoretically possible to cure something like asperger's, but if somebody figures out how, I hope they sign me up. <br /> <br /></td> </tr></table><span class="postbody"> <br /> <br />I can understand you. <br /> <br />The reason why i love NASCAR is my parents are into it and i have a cousin who is a auto racer, and he's smart, and he's an architect. Not every NASCAR fan is a Redneck, some are very smart and are good people. <br /> <br />Also i can understand that you don't like noisy engines, I love noisy engine's Like A big block V8 or a V12 from a ferarri, etc. I don't like high pitched nosies like some whiny singing, and i can't stand babies crying. I think all those people celebrating their neurodiversological uniqueness are country club aspies whose lives don't have much in common with those of us in the trailer park. <br /> <br />I guess I could do a Jeff Foxworthy definition of a country club aspie: <br /> <br />You might be a country club aspie if... <br /> <br />...you get laid more often than your carpet. <br /> <br />...going to the grocery store is not the highlight of your social life. <br /> <br />...somebody asked your opinion about something during the previous year. <br /> <br />...you ever have an intimate relationship with somebody that has more than two dimensions. <br /> <br />I'm not sure what asperger's activism is going to accomplish anyway. It's not like I need somebody to build me a wheelchair ramp. I guess they could pass a law requiring some lady to be my girlfriend.
