Aw, hell. I think this will just go as it did already here in Australia.
Everybody hates Bush, so instead of voting for what they think about each candidate, they'll simply vote for whomever it appears is opposing Bush's ideas the most - regardless of whether or not their own concepts are intelligent and constructive.
Whoever said democracy is the perfect government was an idiot. There is no perfect government. That's a contradiction of terms.
You aussies spawned Rupert Murdoch, so this is technically all your fault...
(but then again, you also spawned pendulum so you're good in my book)

Obama isn't exactly extreme leftist... if anything, it's Hillary you should be worried about...

I don't think that I've ever heard anyone say that democracy is the perfect government, simply that it was better then the alternatives.

Anyone who would advocate mandatory fetal testing or abortion is not truly "pro-choice." BTW, many people who are against abortion in most other circumstances are A-OK with it if the fetus is judged "defective."

From Obama's plan for change:

Quote:
Supporting Americans Living with Autism Spectrum Disorders: More than one million Americans live with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD), a complex neurobiological condition that has a range of impacts on thinking, feeling, language, and the ability to relate to others. As diagnostic criteria broaden and awareness increases, more cases of ASD have been recognized across the country. Barack Obama believes we need to research treatments and search for the causes of ASD. He has been a strong supporter of more than $1 billion in federal funding for ASD research on the root causes and treatments. Obama believes we must work to guarantee that Americans with ASD can live independent and fully productive lives and to assure that their families understand and are able to support a loved one with ASD. Obama will fully fund the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act to ensure that no child with ASD or any other disability is left behind. Obama will also fight to assure that the government and our communities work together to provide a helping hand to people with ASD and their families.
Obama has a long record supporting people with ASD. In the state senate, Obama sponsored legislation that became law to create the ASD Program - a systems development initiative designed to promote the implementation of evidence-based practices. And in the U.S. Senate, Obama is also a cosponsor of a measure that would expand federal funding for life-long services for people with ASD, authorizing approximately $350 million in new federal funding for key programs related to treatments, interventions and services for both children and adults with ASD.
I found this through the Autism bulletin.
Good thing that I'm supporting Obama.
Obama has the right ideas and beliefs about us.
Horse puckey! If some lefties had their way, there would be a fetal test for ASD followed by a free abortion.

I'm suprised, and happy to see this. I thought for sure that he was going to go the way of Hillary who doesn't bother to do any research into Autism and instead just says that she's going to dump massive amounts of money into Autism Speaks assuming that they know the best way to take care of it.

I completely agree with Mumof5. When it comes down to it, though, I think that McCain would do a great job. ^_^ He's not as fundie-like as Bush and seems willing to work bipartisanly.
Obama is so far left it makes the Kennedys gag, and Clinton's plan for universal healthcare is just awful. Let's just keep things the way they are and NOT hand our medical costs over to the government. They f**** up everything else, so what makes them think that the government can manage healthcare properly?
McCain is actually more Liberal than Conservative. Plus is the youth on his side? I have nothing against him.

I'm confused. Why is everyone saying Healthcare in Canada is bad? I live here, and I can say it's pretty good. It also costs a lot less overall then the American System, even in relative terms. When you don't have to pay the shareholder, you save a lot of money.
It certainly seems way better then the American system. While some people have suggested it might be a good idea to have a commercial healthcare system in addition to the main one, I've never met a single Canadian who wants to adopt the American's 'everyone for yourself, if you're sick and poor then just go die' system.

Under the lesser evil test, we can hope one of them is.
Government by special interest has taken over, and it is not the people.
On where will the money come from, the percentage spent on defense, leaves some petty cash for everything else.
He says a million when the 1 in 150 says two million, then says spend $350 each on them.
"For less than a dollar a day you can change the life of an Autistic person."
Hillery said autism costs $35 Billion a year.
They are both looking for the parent vote, and that million or so votes is worth pandering to before an election.
I half agree with nutbag, if you want it, do it yourself. but when the only game in town is crooked, you still play.
Alex is a great spoksperson, but this is not much of an activist group.
We need a Political Action Comittie. The Wrong Planet PAC, because bribes are the system.
Fellow Feringi! What will the next Grand Negus think of us, if we do not donate to his cause now!
We do not have many votes, so there is only one way we can speak.
A lot of money does get spent on us, and we are letting others have the say where.
The smallest noticable bribe is $2500. We spot Alex some money, he has a check to wave, and win, lose, or settled by the Supreme Court, Alex is a player.
Only Pawns play for free, power pieces have a check, and pay to play.
If the horse he picks loses, Alex is still a player, once on the doner list, you become real in D.C.
Doners get invitations, this Board, that Comittie, and WP may be 100,000 or more in four years.
On the second part, where I agree with Nutbag, I love visiting with you all, but we do nothing.
We should have some service role. Our best is in helping parents, Smelena says so, and no one crosses her! We do need it sorted, and she would be great, at least a pamphlet,
"What I learned from Autistics, about raising Autistics."
There are printing costs, mailing, but some free help goes a long way in changing public opinion.
Wrong Planet wins the Autistic vote, but parents go to Autisim Speaks, because they advertise.
It is called Propaganda, and you will not change public opinion without it.
Cure-Anti-Cure, we lose. A Cure would be good, but, until one is found, here is what you can do that has been proven to help.
Most people do not understand science, the reasons a cure is highly unlikely. You cannot argue with ignorance. They want to do something, and there are non-life threating treatments that do work.
Herding, you slowly move the herd in a direction. Once they are thinking treatment, you win.
It is what I am doing now, getting you to see that we must act as one, make choices, and provide service, if we want to be considered to be reasonable people who are trying to help.
I do not look to Autism Speaks, or the next President, to promote Alex and his message, that is for us to do.
This is not a NonProfit, or a Private Club, it is an open door for us to show that we are real, useful, helpful, and there are millions of us.
We have an issue that bonds us very strongly, we cannot quit, join another party or religion, we are lifers.
I sent a copy of squier's book to Smelena, because I knew of nothing better. She found it helpful.
He wrote a first person view from thirteen, it is real.
We have the materials, the people, and it is our lives we make better, and the millions like us.
