Rong Planet? 8O I would show them the articles about how they bully autistic kids. also they tend to have a cure oriented viewpoint, like we are diseased. They claim to speak for autistics but they simply don't, the autistic communities disagree with them. They generally do not empower the ASD communities.
Autism Speaks' founders' daughter speaks against them
http://www.autismvox.com/katie-wright-does-not-speak-for-autism-speaks/
Founders stating their daughter is not a spokesperson for Autism Speaks. Even though they founded Autism Speaks becuase of their grandchild, they publicly shun their daughter (and their grandson's mother)
Thing about this is that Katie Wright believes in the vaccine-autism fallacy and her grandparents don't agree with her.
All smart people would disagree with her too.

Waiver for a charity walk, requiring rather broad terms (including rights to use photographs taken before and after without knowledge, consent, or compensation).

Many misleading and deceptive "facts". For instance, 1 in 150 children is diagnosed with
autism
, and 1 in 94 boys is on the
autism spectrum
. The 1 in 150 figure (which is for "on the spectrum", assumes an equal incedence between boys and girls.
"There is no medical detection or cure for autism", and yet with no method of detection, they know how many people have it.
Only $130 million in private funding for diabetes, and $15 million for Autism... Should be easy to disprove those figures.
For cure related focus, see the "Combating Autism Act". Hell, the name gives you a clue. Comabt me, will you?!? Heh.
Google is thy (evil corporate) friend.

^ Good response, KOR. I think you hit it on the head right off the bat - they only understand it through their children, they do not as an individual.

Well, I've tried to engage people on Autism Speaks in reasonable and polite debate about cure, and had some very scary responses - some shouting at me, indicating I had no right to an opinion, that I didn't have a form of autism as it was Asperger syndrome and that's different, etc, and comparing my life experiences of living day to day with AS with someone being mildly annoyed at ordinary things. They couldn't see how the two could be different, it seems. So I had to re-explain, which seemed to get the point across a little better, but you have to wonder how many people on there have any idea at all what the world is like for us if they think it's the same as being mildly annoyed over something ordinary and us allegedly just expecting everyone else to do hard work adapting to us because we're too lazy to do it ourselves (!!). Not everyone on there was like this, but it was a fascinating experience.
And all that happened in the space of a very few posts over one day.
I'm not having another go.
it's because many only have young children with a form of autism, and they base their view of autism on their child.
so if are doing something that their child cannot do,then do not have any form of autism because their child cant do it.
if are speech impaired/non verbal and do not have the username 'droopy',are often automatically classed as a fraud there as they say if are unable/have difficulty with speech/language then are not able to communicate on forums/through text.
they really have no idea of what autism in any form is like apart from for their own children/.
Am found it a good forum for the lf/autie end of the spectrum especially as some know a lot more about the adaptions and support am get/need than WP,and the good/non ignorant users of AS dont automatically class all autie members under frauds and all aspies under non autistic, but it's usually the ignorant ones who are the loudest and their hate campaigns can be too tiring to bother with.
they started one against all users of WP,because of the silly WP users who joined AS to rant about them classing all autism as being on the more severe sides, whilst they judged it all as being aspergers.
before that, they had one [and it still goes on and on...] against Amanda Baggs, another against Temple Grandin...
it is one forum to avoid if are not one for arguing, and seeing accusations everywhere.

Yeah, that's pretty much what happens there each day.
I've actually made a couple friends over there, but otherwise, I'm surprised I haven't gone crazy yet.

Right now, we have a situation in Pennsylvania that underscores why so many people dislike Autism Speaks. HB 1150 was written and passed the House, to guarantee that insurance providers would cover autism related services, up to $36,000/year for up to five (or seven? - I forget) years. At this point, insurance companies can totally refuse to cover any autism-related services (speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, etc.). The bill was stuck in committee in the Senate. It was finally voted out of committee, with substantial, BAD changes. Many organizations have been working very hard on this legislation and this last move, orchestrated by Senator Don White, was very upsetting. Autism Speaks is encouraging everyone to THANK Don White for moving the bill out of committee (he's the one who was keeping it in committee and refusing phone calls from any but his own constituents) and to support the gutted bill! All the other people who have worked so hard on this legislation are trying to get the bill changed back, or voted down. The bill, as changed, will hurt kids and families in Pennsylvania. The changes were those that were demanded by the insurance lobbies. Autism Speaks doesn't care about what the bill looks like, or what it does to Pennsylvanians - they just want to check off another "win" in their score sheet for their PR about national statistics on what "they" have accomplished. We'll have to live with it.

This thread has links to Autism Speaks financial reports. You want dirt on someone, you look for their bank statements first.

It's not a reality yet, but it's what they're working toward. The same thing happened with Down's Syndrome: they found a genetic marker, and subsequently initiated genocide ops against Down's. Autism Speaks seeks to do the same with autism.
You could point out that they don't spend any money on support or actually helping autistics (someone recently posted government accounting of their budget for the past couple years). They spend money on: paying themselves, "research" (ie search for a eugenic cure, or else funding crap like chelation), fundraising, and "awareness" (which mostly consists of them painting a negative picture of autism, saying we need to be cured, and asking people to give them money).

I hate Autism Speaks to. Here you go:

You can just tell them that they fund research towards eugenics. Which is of course the termination of babies in the womb after a test found that he/she has Autism or Asperger's Syndrome. Their attitude is like; "We shouldn't let autistic people live. Einstein should not have lived or Newton. We are dumb-ass corrupt lobbyists that don't know squat about autism. We just thought it would be profitable. After all who cares about those people because they are just freaks." You see?

Correct. However I am not sure where it is formally reported. But I've never seen it disputed. I suppose you could just get your parents to ask Autism speaks directly (or do it yourself).
