This actually looks really good in my opinion. Maybe some subtle exaggerations for comedic value, but no Rain Man antics in sight.
I'm sure I'll have to wait for Netflix, but it looks interesting.
Off topic, just noticed my new rank:
beejay the blue jay
; it's alliterative, and it rhymes, too. That could be a cartoon on PBS.

Nope, wouldn't work it would only be a passing fad, and you'll end up with superficial men pretending they where an aspie chasing up superficial women , so we would still miss out, that's cool who would want to end up with a vain partner?

hope aspie movies become a fashion thing and they will make hundreds of movies about it, and all the nt's will want to be like their aspie idols from the movies and aspies will become "cool
Not a fan of "popular culture" through it has it's place, in the "old days" I used to work as a cycle courier (messenger) and we where seen as "parasites" may be they still are and I thought to myself I bet this life style becomes "cool" and I was right, it's gone from being underground to become part of "popular culture", think single speed bicycles. messenger bags , fashions etc etc. If your not in to cycling you have no idea what I'm talking about.

A friend of mine saw this film at Sundance. Here's the general sentiments:
* It's accurate in the sense it presents Adam as having AS and all the associated characteristics, but it's apparently somewhat of an extreme, slightly over-the-top version of AS. His character shows little to no signs of learning or adaptation to an NT world, which is kind of surprising considering he's in his twenties. That being said, she also thinks Adam's character was obviously written in a way that conveys the highest level of dramatic tension, so it's not entirely unexpected.
* Rose Byrne will become the Aspie male's dream girl after this movie. She says this completely and honestly.
* Amy Irving does a great job as Rose's mother in the movie, but Peter Gallagher kind of plays the role as a more corrupted version of his character on The O.C.
She says Aspies are going to really like it. There's some moments we're all going to connect to in some way.

It looks funny. I doubt it'll be a hit, but it'll be something worth seeing.

I'd really love to see a movie based on an AS person trying to make it in their chosen field - similar to The Pursuit of Happiness type movie, where they have to contend against workplace politics, their own AS related sensory problems (and that kind of thing), bullying and victimization, etc, but eventually come out on top.
Romantic comedies are all very well, but they're mainly based on making comedic entertainment out of AS quirks - I don't think they'd really hit to the heart of the autistic person's struggle for survival in a world engineered to function for a different brain type.
I'd also love to see an AS film with a female lead.
It isn't AS, nor is it probably catering to your desires, but
Snow Cake
has a female autistic woman as the main character. A guy gives her daughter a lift and ends up in a car accident, and he goes to see if she's ok. It isn't a romantic comedy, and it isn't a geeky science movie. It's just a little film showing a little bit about autism. I highly recommend it.
I like snowcake, I think some parts are quite funny, especially when he first stays at the woman's house and he goes into the bunkbed not knowing it's hers.

It looks like a funny, entertaining movie from the trailer..hopfefully as an advertising instrument that brings in the people and makes the movie mainstream and seen by many ....any comments on its portrayal of aspergers would be ill informed from just seeing that alone.
Although I will say we(human beings) are all different and how the characterize the male lead aspie shouldn't be seen as how everyone will percieve all aspies to be, I think this community needs to give those in the general public whose views would be worth bothering about a bit more credit - ignorant ppl who neither care to learn or buy in to stereotypes as being how all people are, aren't worth worrying about.
I look forward to viewing the whole film and thanks for posting the trailer.

Is this a little movie or a big movie? I hope it plays in Colombia, but it's highly unlikely.
From the trailer, I liked that the guy mentioned Aspergers right away. It's kinda needed - there are still some (or a lot of) people who still need to know it exists, even people who have it and don't know. I don't say it's a diagnostic tool, but it could be some sort of a mirror, if not an exact one.
Chick flicks aren't the most intellectual genre, but it really helps hen people can see Asperger's and autism with some light-heartedness instead of those overly trascendental "Autism speaks" ads.
P.S.: Isn't that the girl from
Damages
?
P.S. 2: I see it's from Fox Searchlight. It may be the next
Juno
at the Oscars.
P.S.3.: There's a thread in the movies and Television section called "If you could make an "Aspie Movie", what would it be?" - It could be helpful to people here who are in the movie-making business or want to be, or for people who want to give ideas.

Oh yes... definately a little more "realistic", I think.
The guy on the bench telling Adam that he needs to talk about something else is dead on!! I hate it when that happens
....
I especially liked the hug scene. The girl has to tell him to hug her! That was very "real". The "he lives in another world" and " you don't have to make that sort of compromise" bit is a little over the top, however. I have been called eccentric and weird, brainy, nerdy
... no one has ever accused me of living in another world
. I rather like our Aspie eccentricities!!
However, I do agree that it looks like a really good film. I liked Mozart and the Whale, but there was something about it that was "off" for me. I understand that emotions need to be exaggerated a bit for the cinema, however. I don't mean to totally bash the film.
I remember my father lamenting quite a bit about my constant monologues on various subjects as a child.
I
know
(beyond a reasonable doubt) that the film will be of exquisite quality.
Plus, the screenwriter seems to have a pretty good grasp on the condition. He repeats the essential truth:
Every individual with Asperger syndrome is difference.
The screenwriter gives
an interesting interview
(he gives away a few scenes from the film, but not too many).
