I can't see myself doing anything else and it offends me when people suggest it. This right here is a giant example of why autism is disability and not a difference. How is it ...

Yes, if they can pass a driver's test they should be allowed to drive. There are NT's who can't pass the driver's test too and no one lets them drive. I had trouble learning how to drive becuase most of my teachers thought screaming at someone with PTSD was a good way to make them learn. I ALMOST go...

My parents practiced Autism Acceptance with me...except I wasn't eligible for any kind of diagnosis until the year I turned 40 and Apserger's Syndrome as added to the DSM. So my parents just accepted that I was strange but, since I wasn't being bad, they pretty much let me be me. That mostly worked...

I had the same problem. My parents were like "You should give up on being a veterinarian when you grow up becuase you'll NEVER be able to pass the college/university math requirements!" That's when I quit trying at all in school. I was only in the 3rd or 4th grade too. I volunteered for a...

It ended up being true for me. It just took a while. Usually with other autistic people who shared my special interests. My pen-pal from Germany is also autistic and we've been friends for almost two decades now. My closest friendships are usually with people I meet online and happen to share a spec...

I HATE this concept so much! My parents used it as an excuse to make me hang out with this neighbor girl 7 years younger than me who only pretended to like me so she could use my laptop and play games she didn't have. She came from a religious family that hated Mormons for some reason. She was in a...

I've had reoccurring dreams since childhood. And for the longest time had dreams that were so vivid I would ask in the dream if I was dreaming and couldn't tell the difference between a dream and reality.

I think the one I live in fear of people finding out about is a message board I go on. I love going on message boards about my special interests because I want to talk about them, but most people in my life couldn't give two flips. Years ago I was looking for forums about plushies because that's my...

I freely shared my special interests as a child but got in trouble for it. So now as an adult, I don't like to talk about my special interests unless it's with another person who also has that same topic as a special interests. I feel stupid talking about my special interests with my mother because ...
