Sesame Street has a terrific searchable/browseable online video database here: http://www.sesamestreet.org/videos

Here's Electric Company: http://pbskids.org/electriccompany/#/videos/ (I also like the 1970s Electric Company that I grew up with, but you have to buy it on DVD._

In general, http://pbskids.org/ is a great resource. Most of their early childhood shows focus on language development; you can pick and choose. Shows you may want to check out include Word World, Superwhy, (can't personally stand either, but kids love them and they'd offer good scripts. When she's older, try Martha Speaks and WordGirl (but be aware, these shows can cause a vocabulary explosion!) Arthur is great for social language but again is geared towards 2nd graders.

Nick Jr. (at http://www.nickjr.com/shows/) also offers good shows for preschoolers, it's when they target older kids that you have to be careful.

For those out there who want help teaching verbs and don't need something completely free, I would recommend the following:

http://www.amazon.com/Action-Words-Skil ... 483&sr=8-1

(96 flashcards with pictures and words)

http://www.amazon.com/Smethport-Photo-L ... pd_sim_t_1

(flashcards specifically for special ed)

http://www.amazon.com/Action-Words-1-Bu ... 483&sr=8-2

(part of a series of 3 verb DVDs)

http://www.amazon.com/My-First-Action-W ... 483&sr=8-3

(action word picture book)

and

http://www.teach2talk.com/teach2talk-ve ... vol-1.html

(part of Jenny McCarthy's Teach2Talk series, which is pretty good).

Young kids with classic autism and speech issues (like my older son) often benefit from lessons which include good pictures, lots of repetition, simple text, slow and simple speech, and a lot of repetition.

Be sure that when your child watches TV, that the programs are developmentally appropriate and that you have closed captioning on if you wish to achieve an educational benefit. I always use closed captioning or subtitles in English whenever my kids watch movies on DVD, and whenever other kids on the spectrum come over, that is their preference, too. My kids watch a lot more videos and DVDs than regular TV, and most of what they have is developmentally appropriate and has educational value. (Even a "fun" DVD like Toy Story, can have educational value when used with English subtitles and paired with simple picture books about the movie.)

Picture dictionaries and picture word books are also great and very cheap on Amazon.com. The Curious George picture dictionary was my kid's favorite. My older son also loved words books--Baby's First 1000 Words, etc.
