Quote:
Factual errors: When D.J. confesses to Miller that he had misheard the Latin, he says that the phrase was actually, "liberate tutemet ex inferis." "Tutemet" is not a real latin word. D.J has got it wrong once again. The only thing the phrase could be that sounds similar to "tutemet" is "Liberate tutam me ex inferis" which roughly translates as “release me safely from hell”.

Quote:
Note. — The suffix nut may be added to all the cases of these three pro
nouns to express the English emphatic self; as, igomet, mihimet, tema,
tema, and even with the addition of ipse after it ; as, mihimet г)ш, lernet
iptum. The genit. plur. and the nommât, tu alone do not admit this suffix.
Instead of it the emphasis is given to tu by the suffix tí ; as, tute, and to
this, again, by the addition of met ; as, tutemet. The accus. and ablat. singular
of these pronouns admit a reduplication, тете, tete, sese ; of sui alone it
is used in the plural also.

I thought the sets were great, creating a haunted house atmosphere in a spaceship.

I didn't really care for it. Too much mumbo-jumbo, not enugh substance. Neat idea, though.

Not exactly sure why, but although Event Horizon wasn't one of my favorite movies, it had a strong impact, stuck in my memory.

I think it might have to do with presenting the medieval-style concept of hell in an entirely secular setting with a scientific explanation, although I didn't quite see the necessary connection between pure chaos and pure evil. They seem totally unrelated to me, and evil is often carefully planned and highly structured.

I'm not sure where that concept of hell originated. I don't think there's anything like it in the Jewish tradition, where Satan is seen as an allegorical personification of evil, but not taken seriously as a real being.

Even the concept of the afterlife in heaven is pretty vague in Judaism, so I wouldn't expect to find a detailed picture of hell.

I don't remember Jesus blackmailing people with threats of eternal torture like some churches do. I guess this approach was something that was greatly expanded and given stronger emphasis sometime later.

I find it interesting that in the businesslike mormon tradition, hell is a very pleasant place where the only torture is an eternity of frustrated personal ambition.

Who else thinks this thread should go to Television, Film, and Video and does NOT belong in PPR?

Which moderator moved this thread?

I think this thread is fine where it is. It could belong in both places, but then again what do I know? I'm a non-scientist. Together, will will find the mod responsible for moving this thread and boil him in oil.

That's some OCD you've got there. If you scream loud enough, you'll get your wish.

I'm sick of this crap, it has nothing to do with OCD.

It's a thread about a movie with religious/philosophical content. It could validly go either way. And I don't care either way.
