I guess this stuff has always gone on, but with new technology, it is common knowledge. It makes me feel like we really haven't come that far from the Middle Ages - it just depends on where you live.

Does the public presentation of these atrocious acts work as a form of warfare against the west? It sure is getting me down. The more I learn about the world, the more depraved it seems.

I think that what they're doing is working against them in the long run. Regimes who's only form of enforcing their policies by the means terror on others, as well as their own never last long in the historical sense. --If ISIS is successful, they may have at most about a 100 year run, during which their 'vision' will become diluted.

Nazism lasted for 12 years.
Bolshevism lasted 74 years before it collapsed on itself
The Chinese Cultural revolution lasted 10 years, before reformers got in
North Korea has lasted since 1948, but at a great and unsustainable expense to itself.
