This is just for philosophical fun on St. Patty's Day. What idea do you hold (that cannot be proven without doubt in this world) that you would be willing to bet your life for all of the treasures you could wish for?

I bet my life that evolution is a factual law.

I bet a woodchuck could chuck 3.8 cords of wood...if a woodchuck could chuck wood.

Determinism.

Hm, I believe your life may be forfeit. "Law" is not an appropriate term to use in biology. I can not think of a single biological "law" that is actually known to hold universally. Mendelian inheritance? There are exceptions. Cell theory? Exceptions. Even the "central dogma" of biology has exceptions, as it turns out rather numerous exceptions.

Even if biology did have "laws," I don't think evolution would appropriately be described as a scientific law. Some other term would be better. But I believe your point was simply that "evolution occurs" and on that I will not only agree with you, but also point out that it can be proven without doubt, as evolution has been observed in laboratory settings.

Hahaha, Claire333 I can always count on you to be a good sport.

Okay, Orwell, I know what you are saying but none of it matters really.
How about...

I bet my life that aliens exist. If it's true I win a solar house (paid for), by the ocean, in Fiji.

Your turn.

Meh, I can't actually bet my life, regardless of my level of certainty. Matthew 5:33-37.

Thank the gods that real men still exist like you Averick.
Are you betting that the gods exist? If you are, I pitch in a gold coin for all the homos out there.

Claire333, Cheetos may make you friends, but it doensn't mean it's good for you, nor does it mean that Cheetos holds the meaning of life. Do you value friendship above all else?
If you do, then the meaning of life is indeed Cheetos? What should your treasure be if this be true?

We each bet our lives we will live one more day or hour or minute. If we win we bet again. If we lose we never know it.

I bet my life this isn't the first or last life I've lived.

Well you're definately not alone there. But I think it goes against the rules of such to bet your current one on it. :)
