The sheer stupidity of this is quite mind boggling.

Here in central New Jersey we have had 2.5 months of global warming. The temperatures for this winter have been averaging about 15 degrees below prior average. In Boston they have accumulated over 100 inches of global warming and are expecting six more inches tonight.

No doubt when the next Ice Age comes (and it will) the IPCC will blame it on the humans.

Global warming is a contributing factor to out harsh winters. As the Arctic region warms, the barometric shield around the polar vortex weakens, allowing more of that frigid air to push south. But regardless of whether or not one believes that, you can't confuse weather with climate change. Using a cold and snowy winter to try to deny the latter is just plain ignorance.

Doesn't he realize the unseasonably wintery winters are possibly a result of global warming? And then the dufus lobs his snowball at the president. Good grief...

Quote:
Understanding the connections between the Arctic warming trend and more severe weather in the mid-latitudes remains an active area of research. But even as Earth’s average temperature rises, natural patterns of climate variability are expected to still operate in a warmer world. There have been many other cases of natural climate oscillations influencing our winter weather in recent years. The unusually cold winter of 2009-2010 proved that record-breaking snowstorms can still coexist with global warming, as did the frigid start to 2011, which resulted in another wintry winter for the eastern United States.

Androbot01, I never know whether our politicians are truly as stupid as the come off or they're merely pandering to the limitless supply of dumbed down citizens. All I know is that corporate America doesn't have to work too hard to feed the ignorant masses with disinformation to keep the "global warming is a hoax" movement alive.

Adamantium, thank you for a valuable resource to further illustrate the ignorance of this story.

Meanwhile in Europe, we haven't had a real winter this year and last year.

Throwing a ball of absolute humidity on the Senate floor dramatizes the fact that Washington winters are getting wetter, not necessarily that the local winter is getting colder.

Snow is a form of precip. More precip implies more water capacity in the atmosphere. Water carrying capacity in the atmosphere increases with temperature. So throwing a ball of absolute humidity implies increased heat in the atmosphere. Not decreased heat.

Washington always got more snowfall than did the North Pole. If Washington were getting more arctic in climate it would be getting less snowfall, not more. So throwing a snowball in the Senate Chamber just draws attention to the fact that Washington is getting less like the Poles, and is getting more like the Amazon Rainforest.

Why wait for the next ice age? We've been in this ice age for nearly 2.6 million years.

Global Warming would be good for mankind. The disaster would be to cool down into another period of glaciation in our current ice age.

'Throwing a snowball' and fox news make republicans look bad but global warming really is not real.

The number of solar flares or sunspots controls the weather:
http://www.eh-resources.org/timeline/timeline_lia.html

We are not getting much sun activity/sun spots/ solar flares at the moment which is why the winters are colder than usual and we are getting record snowfall in some parts of the US.

As you can see:
Image
the number of sun spots went up from 1900 to 2000 which coincided with us releasing more co2 but that was just a coincidence.

Several hundred years ago there were very few sunspots and there was a 'mini ice age' where temperatures dropped.

There are many influences on climate change, including:

- human industries

- volcanic eruptions

- earthquakes

- solar variations

- Milankovitch cycles (orbital variations)

---

The only of these factors we have control over: human industries.

The Earth is our only home. The least we can do is care for her as she's done for us over hundreds of millennia.
