This may not be a great issue of people on the autistic spectrum, as empathy tends to be low as I hear, but it's something relevant to me and I hope some others who read this.
I just have trouble sometimes not being able to push past the perception others have of me. One thing that may tend to help is to ask what I'm afraid of.

I would caution that not all people on the spectrum are unable to feel empathy. I have empathetic tendencies but as I get older, I find it harder to be empathetic with people who are mean spirited.
