I was officially "diagnosed" by a therapist who had never even heard of asperger's until my mom and sis brought it up. The therapist read up on it, and then declared I had it to help with local government aid for job placement.

I'm interested in a more scientific test. I know there is standard test but it costs a couple hundred.
Was wondering if one could get it for free somehow- by volunteering to be a guinea pig in research maybe.

That really really does not sound like a proper diagnosis. You're right to want a more scientific one.

You can do that, I saw a post from someone on here who got theirs as part of a study they participated in...I can't remember who the user was though...Sorry I'm not of more help.

I'm told that here in BC you can ask your family doctor to refer you to a pdoc for evaluation. Maybe the same is possibly in your area, if you have medical coverage.

Get the diagnosis....

But for yourself only.

The govt is NOT your keeper or responsible for you. You are.

I was diagnosed independently, both from a study in which I participated, and by a psychiatrist.

Let's get it out of the cupboard ...

Here we go. it was by the University of Kansas. It was the Adult Asperger Syndrome Study. I took part in it in 2005. My results were signed by Deborah E Griswold, PhD.

In amongst all the questions and stuff, I have an Asperger Syndrome Diagnosis Scale form, which puts my AS Quotient at 131, and the probability as "Very Likely". I am in the 99th percentile. My personality is ISTJ (I thought it was INTJ, so I will find that other post I made and correct it).

They have a disclaimer that the scores are designed for children, not adults over 19, but that is because they don't have a way to measure adults.

The AS Quotient scale is:

< 69 - Very Unlikely
70 - 79 - Unlikely
80 - 89 - Possibly
90 - 110 - Likely
> 110 - Very Likely

In the standard scores, Language, Social, Maladaptive, Cognitive and Sensorimotor, I scored at least 115, and at most 130, which is the top of my scale.

I also received a "Strong Interest Inventory" which is useful for occupational themes.

Finally I also have hyperlexia, which came out of this study.

---

I don't know if it is appropriate, so please guide me on this: can I publish the email address for Doctor Griswold (the letter said "Please feel free to email any questions you may have to xxx@xxx", and it gives an address that looks like it is specific to the study)?

Sounds like they gave the email to you, not posted it publicly, right? So don't post it publicly. If you do, it will get spam. I think it's fair to post a link to someone's public page, which may have an email address on it, though.

You sound a lot like my. Being hyperlexic got me in a lot of trouble -- led me to work in fields that involve a lot of people knowledge, such as teaching and journalism. Very uncomfortable for me. If only it could just be about words, but it doesn't work that way.

Maybe the asker needs government assistance. Some people do. There's nothing wrong with getting government help if it's truly needed.

If you are under 18 your local public school must give you a free evaluation, and if they aren't judged adequate must pay for an evaluation by a professional. Seeing a specialist is the best, but they are certainly not free.
