I suppose this will descend into an acrimonious debate, but this is an interesting article.

The only one who should be playing God, is God himself. It's not up to the parents who's born and who's not. It's up to God.

The separation between church and state is quite separated legally.

Additionally an unborn child has the right to treatment should any treatment be developed for autism prenatally.

A women has the right to know what is going on in her body.

Abortion laws clearly state a women can abort.

A women can choose to keep a pregnancy going if she wants so as long as it is within the guidelines of the law.

Prenatal testing will result in selective abortions but not all of the time.

This issue is best kept separate and within abortion rights and pro-life circles and does not mix with other forms of autism advocacy.

As far as the God argument goes well...people are already playing God by thwarting natural selection with civilization and medicine. The movie "Idiocracy" comes to mind where stupid people were having all the kids eventually dumbing down the entire species. Another movie that deals quite well with the issue we're talking about is "Gattaca."

Even if this technology gets perfected in our lifetime natural conceptions and births will probably far outnumber "selected" births for generations to come. Of course the "selected" births could become a new aristocracy.

The mixing of the God Complex and human behavior in decision making is not unique. It is a kind of ideopathology deriving instinctual choice making changes in evolution as something of fear to something new. While fear is common in change it does not always mean a change is good or even bad. Since God cannot be proven but felt and believed it is reasonable to denote fear is the mechanism of the God rationale in the statements. What would be ungodly is the removal of choices because god for instance cannot prevent sin but punishes for it. However what is sinful given the topic is up for debate though the feelings of personal rejection are relevant in the potential statements in reply.
