Hi all,

I am the mom of a soon to be six year old girl with AS. My husband has been offered an excellent job in Honolulu and we are considering a move. I am hoping to get some feedback from anyone who lives on Oahu regarding awareness of AS. Are there any support groups you know of? Are professionals like speech therapists, occupational therapists etc., knowledgable? Do you find that Hawaii is an accepting environment? We would plan to enroll her in private school and would probably buy a home in Hawaii Kai or Kailua.

Thank you so much for any thoughts or feedback! :)

I am an adult aspie who lives on the Big Island.

If you can afford Kailua you must be really wealthy.

There is one excellent child/adolescent psychiatrist in Honolulu who specializes in autism spectrum disorders. He is retiring but has been training predecessors. You can find his name on the OASIS list of specialists. I can't answer any of your other questions, because I'm not an NT mom.

To my knowledge there's only one aspie from Oahu on WP - he is a teenager. So I don't know that you'll get the info you need from this board.
