Just did a brief extended family poll. Both my maternal grandparents were aspie; all their 7 children are on the spectrum.

grandfather - active but odd
grandmother - passive
mom - aloof (but silly)
uncle - aloof
3 aunts - active but odd
2 aunts - passive

No time to get into all my AS cousins!! These subtypes are very interesting to me. We seem to be a rare family with so many "active but odd" types; probably the co-morbid hyperactive-type ADD. My grandfather even worked as a clown when he retired.

A mix of aloof, passive and active but odd.

I'm just odd full stop.

Wow! I'd never heard of these sub-types. Definitely 'over-formal' here.

A mix of all of them, but mostly aloof.

Interesting... most of the stuff I've read says that aloof is the most popular type and passive is uncommon. That probably applies more to classic autism though. I did expect more 'active but odd' - that seems to be the stereotype you always hear about AS. I guess quiet passive aspies like me are more common than I thought.

Just tonight my husband was having a musical jam session with a couple of friends. At the end I put a mic stand away for the one guy when he was done with it, and he thanked me. I heard him but unfortunately I didn't acknowledge it. (Shame on me - someone else speaks first - initiates - and I still don't hold up my end of the interaction.) My husband said, "Say 'you're welcome', Dear". With a grin I turned to the other guy and repeated "You're welcome Dear". At least the humor went over well.

im a mix between Aloof and active but odd^^

Aloof
x-may isolate self
x-may become electively mute
x-complete withdrawl from social interactions
x behaving as if other people do not exist (sometimes)
x-little or no eye contact
-no response when spoken to
x-no response to cuddling, may respond to rough-and-tumble play
-only show extreme emotion
x-seems to be in their own world
-use people only to get what they want
x-show no empathy

Active but Odd (their wording, not mine)
x-own needs seen as priority, egocentric
x-little concept of compromise
xassertive sometimes to the point of being overly aggressive
x-poor eye contact, or stare
-initiate verbal interactions, but one-sided monologue on topic of interest

x - me
- not me

Passive
x-passively accepts social approaches as long as the other person initiates and keeps it going
x-may enjoy social contact but does not initiate it or seek it out
x-may or may not make eye contact
x-social approaches from people are tolerated as long as they're not sudden/unexpected or intrusive/disruptive
x-quiet, easy going, can engage in activities led by others
[my input - could be related to executive dysfunction?]

Active but Odd (their wording, not mine)
x-own needs seen as priority, egocentric
-little concept of compromise
-assertive sometimes to the point of being overly aggressive
x-poor eye contact, or stare

Over-formal, Stilted
-good language ability
x-excessively polite and formal
x-rule-driven - black and white thinking, no grey areas
-try very hard to stick to the rules of social interaction without really understanding them

I'm definitely aloof. (Be aloof, the world needs more loofs!)

-may isolate self (yeah, look at me, only showing up here once a month or so XD)
-may become electively mute (I'd be so happy if I never had to speak at all)
-complete withdrawl from social interactions (yep)
-behaving as if other people do not exist (I actually think to myself "you don't exist, you don't exist" as I'm passing someone XD)
-little or no eye contact (yep)
-no response when spoken to (? #2)
-no response to cuddling, may respond to rough-and-tumble play (Hey! I respond to cuddling: GTFO AWAY FROM ME)
-only show extreme emotion (hang on, not sure what this one actually means...)
-seems to be in their own world (I am, most of the time)
-use people only to get what they want (...possibly :\)
-show no empathy (No. My withdrawal is due to TOO MUCH empathy, in my opinion: I feel things too intensely and can't cope)

Mostly Aloof and Formal with a bit of Passive/Aggressive thrown into the mix.
