I tend to be extremely forgetful. I can not get by without plotting everything I'm going to do into my cellphone calendar. I leave stuff everywhere, and well.. Yeah. Have always been that way! Extremely annoying. And as everyone I confront with this fact ask me.. No, I do not have learning difficulties. I get intensely sucked up in what I do.

Is this an aspie thing? I'm just curious. I don't think so, but I'm still curious.

For sure this is an aspie thing. My son doesn't seem to be able to remember anything.

Same with my son. I leave everything in a certain place at home, so he can find things. And I email his teachers a lot, so they can remind him in the classroom of things he needs to know. It really helps to have a good relationship with teachers!

Yes. That's why I plan my days ahead in detail. I also write out everything I have to bring for different occasions, which sounds a bit ridiculous but it's necessary. And I still forget things sometimes :x

I used to forget my books and binders in class very often, because I packed up too fast. Now, I have the opportunity to take more time to gather my things (I don't have two classes in a row in different rooms, which means that I don't have to hurry). This means that I am always the last one to leave the class, but it doesn't matter.

I cannot function without notes/PDA/alarms/etc and various other strategies, like piling things I need to take when I leave the house in front of the door (or in a cloth shopping bag hung on the doorknob, actually). Otherwise I forget 90% of what I'm supposed to do. And every morning I wake up totally blank in terms of what needs to be done that day, so I must leave notes where I'll stumble over them.

I think this stuff falls under "executive dysfunction."

http://www.aspergerjourneys.com/2009/01 ... ith-lists/

Quote:
In The Complete Guide to Asperger’s Syndrome, Tony Attwood defines executive function as a term that includes the following skills:

* Organizational and planning abilities
* Working memory
* Inhibition and impulse control
* Self-reflection and self-monitoring
* Time management and prioritizing
* Understanding complex or abstract concepts
* Using new strategies

Attwood goes on to say that most people with Asperger’s Syndrome have some level of executive-function impairment (Attwood, 234).

I wondered why my memory is so bad.

I actually have excellent memory.

My problem is that I get distracted too easily. If I don't make a list, something else will get me off-focus and I'll "forget" what was on the list.

I live in a completely executively dysfunctional household...it can be sooooo tedious remembering to do all the little things....we are a train wreck....
I am a forgetful mess.
My main partner is a forgetful mess...
We are always on a slippery slope, just grasping whatever we can...
Esp. since our lives are complicated with trying to run 2 businesses and whatnot....

In grade school and even now in college I'll forget notebooks and things like that anywhere. I also forgetbto do routine things and I forget a lot of facts and conversations with people that they swear we had but I can never remember.

I do have mild memory impairments and executive impairments. Sometimes I forget to take my pills because I'm so into things like last week, I forgot my meds for a couple days and I ended up being paranoid wreck. Ugh.

I have to write notes and send emails to myself all the time to make sure I don't forget things.

I feel like my brainpower is sapped from remembering numbers and small, often insignificant, details and such. I get stuck on these things and the practical part of memory just goes by the wayside. My long-term memory is excellent; my short-term memory (as in minutes or hours) is hit-or-miss but usually pretty good. My medium-term memory (days to weeks) is horrendous and may as well be non-existent.
