I pronounce it with a soft J sound. With a hard G (burger) it just sounds silly, for obvious reasons.

When I first read this, I immediately thought of the spanish pronunciation of the letter 'j'.

"Au-spur-hurs". Needless to say, I kind of like the sound of that.

But I hate the hard "g" sound, (Leads to rude name "Assburgers", besides it just doesn't sound good anyways...) so I'm going to have to go with the 'j' sound.

Yeeah. I always pronounce it "au-spur-jurs" in my head. But where I live (US), it's unfortunately pronounced like "ass-burgers". xD I usually just say Aspie to avoid it. :P

I'm still not used to the word 'Aspie'.

Forvo has a German's pronunciation of Asperger right at the bottom of the relevant page. I'm not allowed to create a direct route to that page from here as I haven't made enough posts on WrongPlanet yet.

There's also a separate page with a different German pronouncing "Hans Asperger".

Forvo is a really nice resource and if you register you can then pronounce requested words in your own language to help others.

Kind regards

Peter
