I was thinking about Autism One and Autism Speaks and it came to me. Why not make a foundation that focuses on services that is run by people with ASDs for people with ASD's? We could also expose all the bull crud that Autism Speaks and Autism One do, like how there are no autistics on their boards, they ignore us, and the statistics they spin so the public doesn't know that the majority of us on the spectrum are high functioning and only a few are low functioning.

That's a wonderful idea. We need a catchy name. :)

Exactly. I thought of AFA. Autistics for Autism. But I know there have got to be better names than this.

2.0 Organization

2.1 Will the organization be centralized with chapters?

2.2 Will the organization be a decentralized franchise?

2.3 Will the organization be democratic or authoritarian?

2.4 How often will the members meet?

3.0 Membership

3.1 How are members to be recruited?

3.2 Will members serve others, or be served by others?

3.3 Will eligibility for membership be restricted in any way?

3.4 Will eligibility for leadership be restricted in any way?

4.0 Financing

4.1 How will money be raised to run the organization?

4.2 What percentage of the monies taken in will used for administrative costs?

4.3 Who gets paid (and how much)?

5.0 Activities

5.1 How will Recruitment, Socializing, Service and Fund-Raising be prioritized?

That should do for starters. Please answer each of these questions carefully and without flippancy or hostility.

Thank you.

Give me some time to look this over and think about it. I will post as soon as I have answers that I have researched. If others have ideas to answer these questions you are welcome to post them. I do know 1 answer. I prefer a more democratic approach.

Good luck with your idea, it seems like you have a lot of passion for what you believe in.

Goals

Tell the Truth about Autism ( not talk about it like Autism Speaks and Autism One)
Get services for those who need it
How- Donations, walks, fundraising at as many places as possible (think relay for life), Website.

Organization

Centralized with Chapters
Democratic organization
Meetings 2 times a month, support groups can meet more often

Membership

Members recruitment - anyone willing to pay a small fee and help fund raise
Members serve others by raising money and raising Awareness for Equality
Members with ASD's are served by services that they need (psychiatric, psychological, socialization groups, medication, ABA, and support groups.) This one I care about the most
No membership or leadership restrictions

Financing

Donations, walk events, canister raising all over where possible, online, website
Administrative costs Only 22% like MDA. I will be looking at the structure of MDA so the majority of money raised goes to services for us on the AS.

Activities
(the order will change as time goes on so keep that in mind)

1 Recruitment
2 Socializing
3 Fundraising
4 Services given to those who need it

The first 3 must happen so the 4th goal can start to be met. when more money is raised and a reliable amount is coming in the 4th goal will move to 1

This is just the beginning and I can't do this alone. I sincerely thank all of you for your help and any suggestions you may have. Also no one gets awesome cars, first class airline travel, and all that crap because the money needs to go to the people who need the help and for equality for us.
