^^ Ask for a full thyroid workup instead of just a TSH, T3 and T4 which is what they usually do around here. Also have your doc check for a goiter. Both of those things should be able to detect any thyroid problem.

What does a full thyroid checkup involve? I've had the blood test done and they say nothing's up. But, my digestion isn't right - I can't digest anything until after 1-2pm, and I normally eat after 2-3pm, sometimes 5pm as that's the only time I start to get hungry. And I get indigestion a lot - that's being checked up on. If I eat a small meal a day, like say - a sandwich, a packet of crisps and a juice, then I don't get indigestion.

I'm talking about a full thyroid workup with your bloodwork. Most times around here they only check two or three things about your thyroid in your labs. Find out from your doc what all they checked and ask for a full workup. Also, just go to the dr and tell him you are losing the weight and don't know why.

I'm so sorry I didn't reply to your earlier question! I'm new to WP & don't have a system down yet - I totally forgot about this thread. I didn't have much info for you anyway. I can't for the life of me remember where I read that. Very likely somewhere in the massive load of files that the Autism Research Institute sent me. Also, when we started biomedical intervention, thyroid was one of the first things the doctor tested.

I actually had to go to an endocrinologist for my thyroid long before I knew I was Aspie. My general doc (not my biomed doc) said he did a full work-up, but the endo later said that he did not & then did it properly. He said that's very common. My point: if you're thinking you're having thyroid issues, you're better off going straight to a specialist.

As far as your digestive issues go, biomed is controversial and expensive but my family had a ton of success with it. We had crazy digestive issues. I literally threw up all the time for as far back as I can remember. They tested us for parasites, bacteria, food allergy, yeast overgrowth & who knows what else. Words cannot express the difference after some antibiotics, probiotics, anti-fungals & diet adjustments (we did end up having allergies). Before going with biomedical intervention, I virtually felt there was no hope for my digestion. I literally did not know what it felt like to not have a stomach ache.

Good luck to you!

Very interesting. I think I just had the usual T4 and TSH count, but nothing more. I had a blood test for a Gastroenterologist for my digestive problems - they might've done a thyroid check but I'm not sure. I'm going to ring and ask. Would a Gastroenterologist be able to help with thyroid issues?

I've looked up Biomed, but I'm not sure which site is their official one. Would you please provide me with a link?

I used to get stomach ache all the time too, until I found out that I couldn't digest anything before 1-2pm (sometimes much later), and no matter what is eaten, I can't digest it. I notice if I don't eat after about 8pm the night before, that helps a lot too. I also get food/fluid coming back up (a lot) anyway, but not sickness. I can't digest fruit juice or tomatoes. I also can't digest milk or eggs, meat and fatty food, unless they're all in small/tiny amounts, and mixed with something. I eat mostly white bread based products like sandwiches or pizza (the ones with not much fat in them) as they're easiest for me to digest. Can you identify with any of this?
