Does anyone do it? Or has done it in the past?

What sort of yoga was it?

What are the health benefits of it?

Did you go and see a teacher or attend classes?

I would be interested to read if anyone has done yoga.

I used to do it alot, and I was sorta raised on it.
My (very ASish mom) has gone through many lengthy phases of being totally obsessed with yoga.
She tends to treat her mental issues and whatnots with yoga and raw foods.
I don't do it now thought I should...I don't have a comfortable space in which to do it...excuses excuses....

The Rotten NNDB database has a full list of actors, musicians and and other famous people who do Yoga, and it lists Yoga as a health risk factor.

http://www.nndb.com/lists/114/000161628/

Why? I've noticed that many people who do Yoga are also smokers and vegetarians. WTF? Why bother with the Yoga and the vegetarianism if they're gonna smoke? This is a penny-wise-pound-foolish way to run a life. Could it be that practitioners of Yoga tend to be on shaky ground to start with, and could that be the reason so many of them smoke, do drugs, shoplift, have eating disorders, mental issues, etc., etc., etc.?

I think that these people are just human like the rest of us and battle all sorts of demons, addiction or emotional demons, and yoga is not a guarantee for good health when you have other risky habits.

I think there are a lot of people who are attracted to yoga as a pathway to spiritual enlightenment when they are really trying to run away from something.

I tried both yoga and pilates before, and they were both fun. As for what type, I didn't know there were types.

He's great. I have his book "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Power Yoga." I like his philosophy, he is interested in natural human movement, increasing energy, and talks about chakras a bit.

He must be nearing 60 now, he's in amazing shape!

i tried it once, i'm not sure what kind it was though. i really don't have the time, energy, or desire to do it regularly, and i don't really need to do it to stay in shape since i generally do at least an hour or two of cardio every day (3 or 4 during the summer) as part of the rowing team.

as for the health benefits, it can help your flexibility, it can probably help your posture and core strength, probably helps your heart a bit since you're doing exercise. when i was doing it, the guy up front started saying stuff about "squeezing the thyroid gland" and stuff like that, as well as their purported health benefits, which are unfounded. i don't doubt that yoga's good for you, but i wouldn't read too much into it, you're essentially just stretching and holding poses for a long period of time.

I think it definitely has health benefits which have been proven. But they will be different to the benefits a person would get from cardio and weights.

I did yoga for a while and will most likely start again. Power yoga to be exact.

Flexability, isometric resistance training, having to focus on just one thing (clearing your mind), deep and controlled breathing, etc.

I've done power yoga at my gym, and it's great for core strength and flexibility. I also do cardio and weight training as well.

Good to see that some people have done yoga. For me I am interested in the flexibility and relaxation side of it, as well as toning muscles and coordination. I am not a very athletic person and I want to do a more gentle version.

The spiritual side of it is also interesting. I've often wanted to stay at an ashram just to see what it is like.
