In the cases where it's not a personal choice, have they made any headway? Anyone heard anything?

I believe most evidence points towards it being mainly hormonal

Either way, it is not something they choose

If you look in the LGBT forum you will see some debates about this, including people citing some papers I think. You might have to dig a bit is all. I think visagrunt has some very thorough posts on the subject.

Every time I see someone ask about this, I wonder... why does it matter?

There's that, of course, but usually when people ask this there's an implied desire to 'cure' it.

True. Well it is not scientific to make up one's mind about something and work backwards to verify it. No, falsification is key, and people who think homosexuality is a disease or disorder are short on scientific credibility

^ I think it's more often down to a belief that people "choose" their sexuality and therefore that it's nothing more than a "lifestyle" that's free to be condemned

I have also seen the argument that it is a disease that they can "choose" to ignore by being Godly and only boinking women, disregarding their unholy urge to manfornicate as loudly and sweatily as possible

Exactly. I also don't see why it matters if it's a choice or not as it's one that hurts nobody. There are plenty of choices that do harm that are socially acceptable.
