Honestly, I think the lead singer of simple plan(or whoever is the main lyricist) HAS to be autistic somehow. I mean, I've been listenin to the 2nd cd by them more and more every day and its just too much like an autistic anthem-filled album. You have songs like "Me against the world" where the chorus goes:

"I'm a nightmare, a disaster, that's what they always said.
I'm a lost cause, not a hero, but I'll make it one my own.
They love to see me fall, they think they know it all
I gotta prove them wrong, me against the world"

Then you have "welcome to my life" where pretty much the WHOLE SONG seems like its written in an autistic point of view, especially
"To be hurt
To feel lost
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around
To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one's there to save you
No you don't know what it's like
Welcome to my life"

I know a lot of people don't like them because thier sound(too poppy or so I've been told), the vocals are kinda high and "whiny". But seriously, the lyrics are too good to be criticized before you hear them a couple times to get used to the sound.

Sounds more like sh***y emo music to me.

I am almost certain that Frank Zappa had AS or HFA.

He definatly is eccentric, but if he had AS or not is in the air. Same with Maynard James Keenan. It would be tyte if Zappa or Maynard had it because I have it and I think they're dope.

This may stray from the topic but at the same time fit in this thread.

I'm play bass, and am looking forward to being in a band if I can find other musicians.

My stepdad was saying the other day that because of my AS I may not be able to handle touring. This obviously isn't true, is it? I should be able to handle it.

Dave Matthews... I once saw a website of someone who knew him personaly (or someone with a very simaliar name) and it said they had Asperger's. Also some of his songs have AS themes in them. And when he was playing in my town the radio DJ said you could win a chance to go backstage with him and the band and that Dave Matthews rarely does that with people.

There's proof that some dude from Pink Floyd has Asperger's.

I think people are focusing too much on the work produced by the artist and less on how they behave.
For instance I and my doctor (who has seen The Talking Heads live) thought that David Bynre had AS.
This is because he can be sociallly akward or perculiar.
David Bynre I don't think has it severely though.
Morrissey would seem to have more social understanding than david bynre but also obbssesive traits, so I reckon he's probably somebody who like me has relatively mild AS.

i'm surprised noone has mentioned Beck.

Beck speaking about growing up:
"I didn't have that social know-how, I didn't have those cliques. I was on...my own island.... It really liberated me to just form my own universe, really form my own view of the world. I wasn't influenced by what all the other kids did. I was able to step back from the culture at the time." (from Beck - The Art Of Mutation by Nevin Martell)

And speaking of other-worldly lyrics, each of his songs is like another galaxy. Take a random read through a random song here:

some musicians with Aspergers.

I heard that Prince and Steve Clark of Def Leppard have official diagnosis of Asperger's. Also Stevie Ray Vaughan had autism, maybe Asperger's. - Courtney Love has a diagnosis of autism when she was three, probably has Asperger's.

I think Kenna might have AS. A lot of his lyrics deal with internal conflict, feeling unheard/invisible, and, or course, the strong desire to get the hell away from it all. Plus, there's no way an NT could compose beautiful music and lyrics like that. Here's an example for those of you who haven't heard his stuff. That music video could easily be interpreted as being AS-related.

Concerning Beck. Well for one thing his family back ground is fairly perculiar, namely due to his parents bohemian outlook and their involvement in the church of scientology (a pseudo-religion that is opposed to Psychiatry, so Beck probably doesn't have a diagnosis and never will).
He often appears vauge in interviews, but then again if you look at Juliet Lewis (who also is involved in scientology) she too appears to be disconnected.
Scientology often encourages it's memebers to reject people who are not involved in the 'cult' or who are opposed to it's practices.
As a result his family life was probably quite isolated, and I think he went to a scientology school.
I think Becks odd and eccentric behaviour derives from his 'offbeat' socialisation which apparently can be a factor in some areas of AS behaviour.

Well, obviously I have no concrete evidence, but since we're speculating...

Neil Peart of Rush strikes me as Aspie (possibly wishful thinking on my part...). His drumming is made up of some of the most complex rhythms ever to make it onto a commercial rock radio station, and he writes the vast majority of the lyrics, in amazing detail about things such as black holes, greek mythology, sci-fi fantasy and such. The lyrics have changed as the band evolved, but if you look at the entire output, it seems like he went through different phases of intense interests. His drumset is remarkably computerized also, I've seen it in concert, and you don't get to play like that, and think of things like that without a very structured outlook.

Another clue might be the reaction he had to a stressful period in his life when his daughter and wife died at nearly the same time...he went on a solo motorcycle trip to figure things out.

I've raised this before, but Bjork.

Have a think. Outburst at journalist, absolutely nutty music, well known synthenesic.... aspie enough for me!

One of the founders of Pink Floyd is thought to have had it.

I would definitely think Elliott Smith had it. For those who know of him, I don't think any explanations are necessary. Also, Rivers Cuomo of Weezer, classic case.

....I'd say so, for a hard rock band, they have virtually no songs about sex or human interaction. (they're lyrics are overly pedantic)...Just listen to "Red Barchetta", for most rock bands a car is just a phallic symbol, but he actually sings about the "car" itself.

...like some other guy said, just because they're angry or bizarre, doesn't mean they have asperger's syndrome....here's some candidates: Ian Curtis, Greg Sage, Neil Young(a bit of a stretch), Hasil Adkins, Nick Drake,

Actually I think the stretch for Neil Young is not as great as you suggest that it is, due to the fact that he has an autistic son. I believe that there is a genetic factor for ASD's.

Also...I don't know about Greg Sage or any of the others that you've mentioned as possibly having Aspergers, however I applaud the fact that you know about The Wipers. :D
