Many times, when one talks to other people in public, it is often hard to pay attention to this person because they are not only talking to you. This happens a lot when one is in the school or work setting. I have been told that a good way to go about this predicament is to imagine that someone is talking to you. Does anyone use this method?

Could you clarify this?

I am not sure if you mean, that you imagine that the person who is speaking to a group, is speaking to you individually, or if you are meaning soemthign else. :-)

Do you mean something along the lines of pre-planning a conversation in your head?

If so then YES, I've done that before many times. Usually my plan falls apart once the other person deviates from what I was expecting them to say.

Chamoisee:

What I am saying is, some people do imagine that one is talking to them in private when they are in public so they can pay attention. Now, do you know where I'm coming from?

Oh. Of course. Yes, I do that. I also imagine other converstaions in order to be able to cope with initiating interactions, planning out all the things I am afraid the person might say and how I could respond to it.

Yes. I plan out conversations and all that other good stuff. I find it very helpful.
