seeking Western Canadian adult meet up group

Hey there,

I am back for a while, and wondering if anyone knows: Is there an fun adult social/recreation group that is active in either Manitoba, Saskatchewan, or Alberta?

Could we meet somewhere central to these locations for a fun event?

All responses to this query welcome, if you know of a group.

I live in Saskatchewan. I have been looking for a group here, but I haven't had any luck yet. I have never met any other Aspies and think that it would be nice. I would be interested... I just don't have any information.

I myself would like to know about any such group in Alberta,
or (better still) in Greater Edmonton.

What about Red Deer? It is between Edmonton and Calgary and is in a central location ...not to far from Calgary on the QE2 and not too far from Edmonton either on the QE2.Lots to do in Red Deer. Westerner Days is in mid july

Thank you all for your posts so far. I can easily get to any of the cities mentioned so far, but there must be more of us. I have been thinking of how to grow such a group, and I am a bit stuck. The local resources in my city provide support and advocacy (mainly for distressed parents) and that's great, but what about times when you just want to go out for dinner and a movie? Or a hockey game? Wouldn't it be great to have a social group where you could connect on your own terms (be yourself with people who understand and accept you) and have a fun night out? I am going to spend some more time on this and see what I can do. Let's all put our heads together - we could come up with something really great. Sorry if I ramble a bit, that's me thinking out loud. Thanks again.

I am only just now realizing how funny that sounds!! A bunch of Aspies hooking up for a social activity!! That would actually be really interesting. I am curious what you guys/girls are like in person. Ya know? I agree, however, there HAVE to be more of us in this area. I haven't gotten my formal diagnosis yet, but when I do I plan on making some efforts to get with an advocacy group and see if I can advertise a meeting or possibly even run a meeting for my area. Even if it is just a monthly thing (probably all us Aspies can handle anyhow!! ). Saskatchewan is pretty remote, so there is no telling who all might (or might not) show up for such a meeting.

I'm a home grown Saskatchewan resident myself, and I would definitely be interested in at least meeting someone else in the spectrum. I'm close to Saskatoon. I'm also not officially diagnosed. I've tried to look around a bit for anything local in support groups or similar. All that I can find relates to support groups for parents of autistic and aspergers children and group activities again for children and adolescents. Nothing for adults.

I have noticed the same thing RingRider. I actually do have a daughter who has AS, however. I have actually considered going to a few meetings, but they are always on the first Tuesday of the month. I have a library board meeting (don't laugh...) that I have to go to on the same day. I just discovered the seminar series and plan to attend a few of the upcoming topics - even if it means ditching the library a few times. I am interested in figuring out who I could talk to about organizing a group for adults. Should be possible, I would think....

I'm just new on here. I moved to rural Saskatchewan last year. I like how quiet & peaceful it is out here on the prairie, so I don't get 'overloaded' with input & melted. I'm hoping that this slow environment will help me to be able to hold down a couple part-time jobs, so that I can stay independent by supporting myself 100%. I tried looking for anything for adults who are on the spectrum here in the Province, but all I got was a frustrating run-around from people on the phone, everyone telling me something different, or something which turned-out to be inaccurate. Everything seems to be available /set-up for children only in SK; there seems to be nothing for adults. Is that accurate? Does this mean that I'd have to go either to Calgary or to Winnipeg to see a proper specialist? Thanks for any advice.
