If we accept the argument that marijuana works as a gateway drug as valid reason to outlaw it, why shouldn't milk be outlawed? It is, after all, a drug, and could work as a gateway drug if marijuana works as a gateway drug too.

Also, why are drugs that actually kill, like alcohol and smoking, legal? Those pose a much more serious threat to society than marijuana.

Thoughts?

All substances should be legal provided the proper warning available on the packaging.

Cigarettes still don't describe the addiction rather less how it kills someone. Just vague allusions that you'll die somehow eventually if you keep doing it. Responsible packaging, legalization, let whoever wants to do it die if they want.

Drugs
They say marijuana is bad
But has it killed anyone?
Milk is also a drug, it really is
If Mary Jane leads to bigger drugs
When so does dairy products we consume
And what of smoking and alcohol?
In the drunken stupor of legal drink,
Brawls and bad decisions are common
Lungs of smokers cringe heavily
Every puff they take cause harm in others
Drugs that are harmful, yet ignored

There is lots of money behind alcohol and cigarettes to corrupt legislation to keep it legal. Marijuana is made more valuable by being illegal and benefits the corruption by remaining so.

I would legalize everything. Yes, even hard drugs like cocaine and meth. Outlawing drugs does not prevent drug use (who here will say that the only reason they haven't tried heroin is because it's illegal?) but just pushes it underground where it can only cause more damage.

God I hate it when people compare weed to food. You can't compare something you eat to satisfy your hunger, to something you just wanna get high from. By the way, I have nothing against weed, matter of fact I smoke weed. Yes, I'm aware you're talking about the gateway drug myth, but comparing weed to food isn't a good argument against it.

The myth is based on the stepping stone principle. Soft drugs leading to harder drugs is BS. People progress by dosage, not by types of drugs. If you don't think you could handle cocaine, then you start off with a small amount. Then you progress as your comfort does.

Another version of the myth is that people get bored with weed and move on to crack. Well then, doesn't that principle have a broader application than just drugs? That might be what you mean when you compare weed to food, but people aren't gonna selectively see that point.

Besides, they're two different types of drugs. If you prefer stimulants to depressants, then you're gonna mainly use stimulants in the first place.

PS: Yeaaahh, long post, but I have to be specific on a controversial subject.
