Are they overdiagnosing autism or under diagnosing according to these stats?

This is just talking about the new "study" where they asked people (by phone, if I remember correctly) whether their kid was diagnosed with an ASD or not. Around 40% of them reported that their child had "recovered" from it, making people question whether the person in question ever really had it or not. It's not about in general; it's about that specific study.

Exceedingly poor methodology... bogus slap-dash "research". Less valid than an opinion poll.

Another example of stupid people using catch words to imply actual, intelligent research had been done. The word "study" suggests this to the average Joe.

Maybe "adapted" would be a better word than "recovered". Of course, they can't be autistic anymore because they're not stupid and they can talk! (sarcasm)

So can they not decide if there are more of us than they thought or less?

Ah, but are they being listened to? 8O
Maybe it should read... Up to 40% needs ignored or denied by NT families.

No accurate conclusions can be drawn from badly designed "research". There even seems to be some question as to whether to consider this a study at all, but just another distraction by "Autism Spews"...

They've been expanding the definition of autism to include more and more marginal folks like me. Somehow, it reminds me of the windup to the credit crisis. I think it's the standards that have changed.
