I was told $1300 by one place, and $1700 by another, with a warning that it could be more if the psychologist needed to see me more than the usual allotted time. I was also told it could be less if he needed to see me less, but that was unusual. Basically, you pay to take the tests, and it's an hourly rate after that, but I forgot what the hourly rate is, I just know what it usually runs. I cannot afford that. Which is ironic to me that the aspie/autie that can't hold a job, won't have insurance is probably the one that's not gonna get a diagnosis, because of lack of funds, which is why they would want one in the first place. You can't apply for benefits without a diagnosis of some sort.
But, recently I've learned that you can get diagnosed by your local state university in the psych dept. I do not know if it's an official diagnosis. Recently, I had to get my son tested again (I guess they wanted to make sure he was still autistic ) for the state to continue services. They sent me to our local university, and it only costs $30. That's where I'll be going soon to be evaluated by the same lady. If it's official enough for the state, it's official enough for me, and to be honest, it's all that I can afford.
