26 May 1993. I share my birthday with Helena Bonham Carter, but I'm 27 year her junior.

I was born a month after the famous quote by George H. W. Bush where he said, "Read my lips: no new taxes". Of course once he became president, Bush raised taxes as a way to reduce the national budget deficit.

I'm a child of the eighties. Depeche Mode released their song, "New Life" close to the time I was born, which I find pretty cool, since I like their music. There's a picture of me as a toddler wearing an ET t-shirt. I had a cabbage patch doll I used to carry *everywhere* with me, and enjoyed riding a Strawberry Shortcake Big Wheel. The first movie I saw in theaters was about Rainbow Brite, and I strongly identified with her friend Shy Violet. I also remember Care Bears, My Little Pony and Pound Puppies. I remember TV shows like He-Man and She-ra (Princess of Power!) and I used to watch an animated cartoon version of Dennis the Menace (American Version) on FOX at 3:00 every afternoon. I remember my sadness when the children's show "Romper Room" was cancelled
When I was three years old, my Dad taught me to respond to the question, "What do you think of Reagan?" with the words, "Reagan stinks." Reagan was up for re-election that year (he won, of course) and my Democrat Dad taught me this party trick so we could do this routine in front of a Republican Uncle of mine.
I recall my Dad telling me about the Challenger Disaster, and the Berlin wall being torn down. I recall voting for President in my second grade class when Bush Senior and Dukakis were running against each other. My parents were votinf for Dukakis, and I did, too. I recall boys in my class gleefully declaring, "I picked Michael Do Cocky!" "Cocky" is sometimes used as urban slang for poop, at least where I live, so these boys found that hilarious.
I remember being in third grade toward the end of 1989, and the teacher giving the class the assignment of making predictions for what the '90s would bring. I remember classmates of mine coming up with things like, flying cars, and someone came up with a cure for AIDS. I no longer remember what I came up with.
Ah, gotta love childhood nostalgia. At the risk of sounding cliche, it takes me back to a simpler time.

November 1958. There were only 48 stars on the U.S. flag and we had yet to put a satellite in orbit. Sputnik was launched almost 13 months earlier.
