1994 Jupiter got hit by a comet and Forrest Gump and The Lion King were the big films that year.

1987.

Predator, Wall Street, The Untouchables, Spaceballs, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Full Metal Jacket had come out.

Actor Lee Marvin and director John Huston died and Ellen Page was born.

1988, a lot of crazy events happened that year. There were some good movies that year too.

President Kennedy takes office, and gives his first "State of th Union" address during this year.

Patsy Cline tops the charts with "I Fall to Pieces", and "Crazy"----both BEYOND FABULOUS songs, IMO.

They turn "West Side Story" into a movie.

The now classic books "Catch-22", and "Tropic of Cancer" are released.

The U.S. breaks diplomatic ties with Cuba. The "Bay of Pigs" happens.

The Berlin Wall goes-up.

On the exact day of my birth, November 2, 1961, there was a really bad hurricane in British Honduras, with 20-foot waves, that killed 100 people, left thousands homeless, destroyed government buildings, and a prison.

1947

Shipping from Northern Hemisphere to New Zealand is held up and there are shortages of lots of things: whisky, car tyres, velvet, babies's cotton nappies. A black market springs up to obtain such things.

Post war austerity is a fact and a mood. People dress in grey, both men and women.

Men and women wear hats when they go out. The hats are grey too.

India achieves the reclamation of its independence from British control and profiteering.

UFOs suddenly appear in unprecedented numbers of sightings

Children are seen and not heard, bashed, shamed, and this is regarded as "normal".

Children with difference are quickly despatched to institutions, considered less than fully human, and it is "for their own good". They are treated shabbily and lead miserable lives.

Disability rights are non-existent.

The double standard is in full bloom.

Working wives are considered a social disgrace.

Racism is accepted and operates at all levels - insitutional, personal, social, cultural.

Food is inexpensive here.

Schools operate on "conformity for all" basis, as social training to conform to social norms of the time - girls will be teachers or nurses, boys can choose what ever suits them.

And so I arrive on the Wrong Planet and my life begins...

90s kid here. 18th birthday is coming up soon, actually.

1992: a month and half after the LA Riots, 4 months before the first broadcast of Cartoon Network, 5 months before Bill Clinton is elected president.
