I was just looking at You Tube videos, with my headphones on. I came across one which starts with some kind of REALLY LOUD, high-pitched, scratchy noise, like some kind of electronics/audio mishap. It felt like it pierced straight through my head. I yanked the earphones off immediately, and was left feeling like I wanted to pass out or cry or something. It was like an electric shock straight through my head. Half an hour later, I still feel it. I feel it in my ears and teeth, down my spine, and into my feet. It's horrible.

I'm starting to think it damaged my ears. :(

I had the sound down pretty low, too, because I don't like loud things. Other videos were just fine.

I just had to tell someone, because I'm so agitated about it. Grrrrrr! I hope the person who put up that video gets eaten by army ants. (Or whatever those ants are that come and devour a chicken in 30 seconds.)

Oh I loved that movie.
I wouldn't worry about it, sometimes it takes sounds a while to stop, especially if it had such a negative effect on you.
Last night I was getting annoyed with a clock ticking that I could have ripped it off the wall and snapped it in half (it was made of thing wood).

I wouldn't worry about that (I doubt your personal earphones can put out over 140 decibels).

Damaged ears feel like...your ears are full of water and you can't really hear anything except that really loud ringing sound for a few minutes to...forever (depending on how bad the damage was).

Funny how it's often very specific noises that get us. For me, it's styrofoam squeaking (and the feel of it). I absolutely abhor that sound! It feels like someone is stabbing my brain with pins and needles, and it doesn't matter how soft or loud it is. It always sounds extremely loud to me.

The worst noise for me is hearing corn getting peeled (I know there's an actual term for it, but I can't think of it right now.) I have to get away from it as quickly as possible, otherwise I get a really bad headache and get really upset.

I can only hear out of one ear, so anything on the radio above 12 units hurts my ears. My brother asks me how I can hear it. I just tell him I can.

:hail: the truth! I get where your coming from I've had that problem too from multiple things... Just try to relax (lay in bed w/ the lights off, no radio on, etc. maybe drink something or sniff something herbal). If it doesn't wear off by tomorrow you may want to call a doctor (your choice its none of my business just throwing it out there). But it should pass eventually :).

It's common for people with hypersensitive hearing (auditory hyperacusis) to believe they've damaged their hearing but this is almost never the case. Hearing loss usually comes from prolonged exposure otherwise everyone who's ever fired a rifle once (170+ decibels) without protection would be deaf as a post.

Relaxation is the key here otherwise you'll end up with a condition like Tonic Tensor Tympani Syndrome which will greatly increase your sensitivity.

If you're still bothered you can try Musicians Earplugs which attenuate sound flatly across the range. Mine reduce noise by 25 decibels which takes a bit of getting used to at first but I really couldn't stand the outside world without them. My Audiologist is somewhat of an expert on hyperacusis and has given me some desensitisation exercises to do but I don't know if you can get these anywhere online. Maybe if you google Myriam Westcott and Hyperacusis you may be able to find something.

Try to relax and good luck!

Yes I agree with you on that, I used to know someone that was hard of hearing in one ear, but then I had a feeling she was making it up because she could hear both the headphones.

With me, anything that pops, it's like a horrible drill in my head, like balloons, once they pop, I get into a panic state. Even dogs barking used to really bother me until I got used to it.

I once went to a Who concert and was on the floor in the back and still couldn't hear hardly anything for the rest of the night after. This loud RINGING constantly. I think the roadies wear ear plugs. I like loud music sometimes but I have to be in the mood for it.

What bothers me here is game day. My husband, my daugthers bf, and about five or six other guys all come to watch SEC football. They get LOUD. LOUD LOUD LOUD. They scream at every play like they can hear them on the field. Then when their team scores it's even worse. It's even worse if their team wins. One guy tackled my husband and they were screaming "YEEEAAAAAAAHHHH" and apparantly that's what your supposed to do. I try and stay in my room for that. But it's loud there too.

Shucking. Peeling the husks from ears of corn is called shucking (and it is a rather irritating squeaky sound, akin to rubbing a latex balloon).

from which the phrase "Aw, shucks." Meaning "leavings", or something discarded and essentially worthless, as in: "Tweren't nuthin'"

Changes in the chemistry of automotive paint have made this one obsolete, but there used to be a particular sound when one would drag fingernails across the surface of an aging car, on which the paint was becoming kind of chalky - very similar to (but worse than) scraping fingernails across a blackboard. :eew: Wonder if there's a 'chalk' connection there, in either substance or consistency?

And the cyberpolice should hunt down and kill whatever idiot started making those stupid video clips that start out low-key and sedate only to suddenly break into some hideous screeching demon face monster popping up onscreen with the volume level maxed out. I'm sure the impish moron who came up with this novel little practical joke also thinks its funny to hide behind doorjambs and slug passerby in the face with a baseball bat as they come through. Talk about people who never grow up. I'd like to strap these hilarious comedians to a gurney and taser them repeatedly in the temples until we all just can't stop laughing...

Ugh! I know what you mean! :x I think the worst of those videos are those ones that put a scary image at the end with an extremely loud noise just to make you jump! :x
