Yes, you read it correctly, Obama is planning to cancel the mission to the moon.

I am so angry about this, I have decided to withhold my support from him in the next election, I am going to vote for the Green Party, or if I am especially evil, the Republicans. But Obama has just lost my support.

We need to have a strong space exploration program, it is our only future.

I'm disappointed too, but the fact is, the moon isn't going anywhere.

:::Sigh::: Kids.

The US Space Program has done more for this nation both financially and technologically than any other thing our government has EVER spent a dime on.

Look around the room you're in right now. There is absolutely nothing in that room that has not been either created or improved by technology originally designed for the purpose of sending human beings into space for exploration and scientific experiment and returning them safely.

Computers, microchip circuitry, laser applications, satellite communications, chemical treatments of surfaces, antibacterials, food processing technology, plastics and other artificial fabrications, fiber optics, medical technology and pharmaceuticals...the list goes on and on...

It's the journey, not the destination...

Technological developments from space exploration is the only way we'll ever be able to pay back China.

But if that's your only reason for disliking Obama, you're not paying attention.

Well, it might crash into the sea, but not for at least another several million years :P

Anyway: since I'm English, this doesn't really affect me - but I can kinda see why Obama decided not to proceed with it. I mean, the USA is currently busy with a war on two fronts - which isn't exactly cheap, let's face it - so to spend money on something that is, to be honest, rather superfluous at this point, is somewhat needless.

I understand why you are upset, it is very important that we continue to go farther in our space exploration and study. I only hope you don't actually allow this to change your vote, well unless that is the main difference between which politician you chose of course. I hope to one day before I die, see people living up there. Civilians somewhere maybe a station, I know it would be too much to ask for a huge departure into space but I would like to know that when I die humanity is no longer bound to earth for our survival.
