I'm guilty of doing that and clawing soap bars into pieces.

Oh yeah, definately cords. I used to chew on my headphone cord every time I sat at my computer. I was gentle but I still frayed it and broke them :(

I am so pleased that I am not the only chewer... I do not know what it is about chewing, but it is altogether too much fun and it works like a sedative for me. Good stuff it is.

I used to have a really bad habit of chewing pens and pencils - I'd always end up with the eraser from the pencil in my mouth.
I don't chew on them as much anymore, but I chew on my fingers when they're cracked and dry.

I used to bite my hands when I was upset. That was bad, I stopped thank god. Now, I don't really chew on much. I used to bite my nails, but managed to quit that too. I used to chew on pencils when I was younger. I don't use pencils much anymore though so that stopped too.

I love to chew on things. Anything and everything! I like to chew on people too...fortunately babies/toddlers seem to enjoy being nommed. I also like to chew on wood/plastic/etc. I usually buy gum to keep myself from chewing on things I'm not supposed to be chewing on.

I used to shave pencils down to the lead with my fingernails people started rumors at school that I ate my pencils.

I tend to put things in my mouth. I once chewed my Nintendo DS pen until it broke and I have chewed the antenna off the cell phone. I have some teeth mark on some of my DVD cases and boxed sets and books. I try not to put my head phone cords in my mouth but it's a habit.

Beware of that picking thing -- it could be OCD. You may need to get help with that. My neighbour has OCD and he picked himself tell he bled (said it feels orgasmic when he went that far!); my father has OCD (and dementia) and has picked his nose, eyelids and other parts of his body as well, till there were holes; and an autistic friend has done the same.

You've all just reminded me how many things I used to bite when I was younger -- rims of polystyrene cups, all my pencils... I also liked sucking my plaits after I'd been swimming. I can still remember the taste of hair. Much of this lasted into early adulthood, AFAIK, and I thought it was just a the remnant of a childhood habit. Don't a lot of 'normal' children do that anyway? I thought that was common.

I never really bit my fingernails, except occasionally a hangnail which was bothering me. Other friends bit their nails so short that they never grew up to the tip of their fingers ever again, even once they'd grown up.

I love to chew on my friends too, haha. Mostly my boyfriend because I can bite him more places than my other friends. (That sounds naughty but it's not, I swear..) I try not to bite too hard but the texture is so nice, sometimes it's hard to resist. It just feels so good. XD;;; Especially arms.
I like to chew on plastic things too. I would maul so many things in my house if they were less useful..

I used to chew on heaps of things when I was a kid. These days I just chew the skin around my fingernails. I also tend to pick at myself quite a bit which I know isn't good for me.

Not people, but I bite/chew/run around my mouth everything else. I literally chew pens to pieces. I always keep a 'chew toy' beside the computer. At the moment, it's a big piece of Blu-Tack (not actually chewing this, as don't know if it's poisonous?)

Until I started taking an ADHD med last year, I loved to occasionally eat chalk...liked the feel of sand in my mouth. I still love to eat snow when it snows. I also have a bad ice chewing habit. It's called pica when you eat things that aren't food. But it doesn't sound like you are eating, just chewing on. I used to bite people during 'close' encounters...but also had a problem of hitting people? not hard, but I think it annoyed friends, looking back.
