this is a really interesting topic. It really depends on who I disagree with, whether or not I am going to argument with them. If it is somebody I feel comfortable with like my dad or other people who are close I will find I ussualy play devils advocate even if I agree with them.
There are other people that are not worth arguing with and ususally feel they can stay igorant I don't feel I need to enlighten them have acually tried to reinforce that there stupid belives are right, Have at it pal. But growing up with problems like mine I don't have the selfesteam to argue, pretty hard when you have trouble with speech to argue. Sure have found it ussaly it is the person who expresses themselves best is considered right. I always over annalize every thing and find it hard to take a strong possition in a lot of cases anyway.

My mind doesn't work fast enough with speech for me to argue. It takes me a long time to think out what I want to say, even if it's just, "Can you pass the salt?" That might take 30 seconds or a minute to work out what I want to say and then get my mouth to say it. Complex arguments are just impossible. I can't get my head around what I want to say and say it. I might be able to argue if I were typing, but that's not very practical. When I disagree with someone I can usually get out, "I disagree," but I can't work out the reasons and explain them. It's very frustrating not to be able to argue. I wish I could.

This is the kind of response I was looking for. You were the only one to explain here why you are unable to do it while the rest here appear to choose to not argue and say why. That's not being unable to argue, it's choosing to not argue. Don't people know the difference?

Perhaps there are NTs out there who are truly unable to argue as well for this reason. Maybe they have a mental condition that disables them to do it or they mean they choose to not do it and they are saying they are unable to?

I think my mind works too fast and my emotions are too strong that I can barely get any words out.
Although when try to argue and people are talking over me I find a good "LISTEN TO ME!" at least makes them stop and let me speak. Still my words get messed up.

I thought I had answered that I couldn't so I chose not to. I know I don't process things quickly enough and my mind gets blank when people are aggressive with me, so my choice not to argue is like choosing not to run on a sprained ankle.

That's a good answer too. Thank you. I now can understand what you meant by choosing not to. We both have our own definition.

I know what you mean about someone who refuses to consider another angle on a subject. It's frustrating. I can exchange ideas as long as it doesn't become a competition.

Some people seem to take contradictions or corrections very personally. I've had more than one person tell me "I'm not going to argue with you about it!" and all I can think of is "Why?" If they're so certain they're right, why can't they just explain what they're drawing their conclusion from? Is that a possible empathy problem I have? I never used to think so, because by being open and honest (tactfully, of course) I'm treating them the way I expect to be treated. I guess some people just misiniterpret any disagreement as hostility. But if it's without raised voices or personal insults, I sometimes see it as a sign of friendliness.

On the other hand, there are others that get carried away with it and act like bossy jerks that try to force their opinion on others. I don't like that kind of competition. I think arguing can be like a game in that it's only fun depending on who you're playing with. The other players have to at least be a little bit competetive, at least willing to reason enough to justify their viewpoint. But not so competetive that they become like that one loud egomaniac that you never ever want to invite over to play monopoly.

Forcing your opinion on others is wrong. Expressing it is okay.

I have also noticed people take it personally when you call out their irony. They get defensive or hostile or they just don't admit it. Someone recently told me lot of people don't admit it and I am one of the few who does. I don't know why they don't admit it.
Why can't people back up their claims? Maybe they're too lazy or they don't know how to explain it. Or maybe they have a problem Aimless and SuperTrouper have.
