I don't get them or really understand them. And when it comes to people in my own family it's even worse. Exmaple was a sad when my grandpa dead? Well yeah but not like I was for when my dog died. Then there was when I found out I was going to be any uncle. I think back and was I happy? I guess I was but I found out then just want to really fast go back to what I was doing. I was just trying to explain this to my mom that I find it odd.

I guess with just trying to figure out if it really is ADD or Asperger's that I have it's to much to take in.

But I just thought I would look at the list for ADD here's what I came up with about each one

1. Often does not give close attention to details or makes careless mistakes in schoolwork, work, or other activities. - That was so not me growing up. In fact all of my teachers said I would spend more time trying to make ever thing prefect.

2. Often has trouble keeping attention on tasks or play activities. - Again that was not really me. Put Legos in front of me and I was just fine for hours. Put anything I like such as Star Wars same thing.

3. Often does not seem to listen when spoken to directly. - Never really thought about this one.

4. Often does not follow instructions and fails to finish schoolwork, chores, or duties in the workplace (not due to oppositional behavior or failure to understand instructions). - I would say this is more I dislike when people to have any attack plan. I look back and even at things at my age and in each case. I needed a plan. I understood things much better with any attack plan. If there is not one ever thing goes to hell for me.

5. Often has trouble organizing activities. - Never thought about it much.

6. Often avoids, dislikes, or doesn't want to do things that take a lot of mental effort for a long period (such as schoolwork or homework). - If it was math and writing sure. If it was anything else such as history, astronomy, computer, art, or just anything where I had to make something I had no problem.

7. Often loses things needed for tasks and activities (e.g. toys, school assignments, pencils, books, or tools). - Who doesn't?

8. Is often easily distracted. - The fact that I can listen to music, TV and read a book and not lose my place in the book. But like the last one who doesn't get distracted at times.

9. Is often forgetful in daily activities. - This was not me.

So I don't get it. Could it be that I have both ADD and Aspergers. I mean to find out from my mom that the doctores side I was on the boarder of ADD (either I have it or I don't) seems really odd to me. Or is it the fact that I have Dyslexia a long with ADD and Aspergers and my childhood was just one big lie with no one wanting to just come out and tell me the turth. About the only thing I do know is that both ADD and Aspergers people both have problems with social interaction and I fall right into that.

Sorry if this is all over the place.

Like, constantly, all the time misplacing crap. I do that ALL the time, my mind just slips away. I dream about it, too. I have both ADD and Aspergers.

Do you have reading problems? Your spelling reminds me of my bf's who is dyslexic. But, only you can judge. All those problems are pretty related to each other.

It is possible to have Asperger's and ADD. Not getting your own feelings didn't figure prominently in my therapy or readings for ADHD, but it does seem to really resonate with what I've learned about AS. If you haven't read Attwood, I'd recommend him. He talks about emotions and the specific issues that people with AS have with them. It might help you sort it out.

Do I have reading problems. Yeah and I not the best speller. I don't question that I have dysleixa. I know I do. When I tell people I have that and they always say. "Well I have a bit of it to." No they don't.

@happymusic I will have to look into that. Thing is I was never even told I had ADD until I was into my early 20's. Now from reading up on Aspergers and ADD/ADHD and of the over laps. And from my reading about ADD it never says anything about emtions or feelings either.

It's like I have been only told about my problems only half way and I would like to know the other half. It would help me understand the times were I had a meltdown that had nothing to do with my ADD or Dysleixa and could also explain my social and communication skills better.

I imagine this is quite common, as AD(H)D is a hip diagnosis, and AS is not.

I often don't know what I'm feeling, it's a pain. I feel like I'm being kept from information that could be really useful to me.

This sounds a lot like me. I don't have dyslexia (and I agree that I hate when people claim to have "a touch of dyslexia" who clearly don't. I don't even have it and I feel strongly about this), but I was diagnosed with ADD when I was 12. Like you said, I feel as if ADD only explains my problems about half way. I meet some of the criteria (enough to get diagnosed), but I've never been absent minded, never had problems with organization and losing things, etc. The discovery of Asperger's was unbelievable for me. It's as though they took everything about me that I assumed was just "something I did" and made a disorder of it. Where ADD could explain my difficulties in school and with getting chores done, it doesn't explain any of the other things that have always given me trouble my whole life.

Dyslexia and ADHD share the same symptoms. I have mild dyslexia. I really have a problem with spelling correctly. I have a spellchecker and my AS makes me a perfectionist who re-reads and edits posts to make them perfect.
