I was just over at The Vault and stumbled across a couple interesting bits of news...

1. Fallout: New Vegas pre-orders are much larger than pre-orders for Fallout 3!

It's a little more than 2 months from release, but I pre-ordered my collector's edition months ago!! ! :P

2. A bit about the game from Chris A.

Quote:
We just want to make a great game, so we're focused on that, although the pre-order units were a bit of a surprise and definitely is causing pressure here. I'll say that FNV is a little more time-consuming than the original because you can take different routes through the critical path, so get ready for 3 to 4x the amount of replayability, which is pretty cool.

Sounds a lot like OLD SCHOOL Fallout to me!! ! :D

So, who else pre-ordered already?

I ordered the Vault 13 Edition from GameStop which due to the five other editions makes me really hate pre-order bonuses.

The Vault 13 edition has the coolest looking stuff...

I'm getting the Tribal edition from Amazon--not nearly as cool, but I think the machete will come in handy in Hardcore mode.

I think hardcore mode is gonna be the coolest part of the game! :rambo:

they really should've done what Blizzard did with Starcraft II and include the first game so people could get a far better understanding of the Fallout universe then with Fallout 3. The best example is asking someone who has FO3 if they know who Killian Darwater is or at the very least, The Master.

I never preorder games. More hassle than its worth. Besides there are generally a lot of copies available the day they come out.

Yeah, I could see bundling Fallout 1&2 with this game since they are much more directly related... (NCR v Caesar's Legion)

Although I'm not sure how many new gamers would have the patience to play them-- you know how young folks are! :P

I'm sure the high rate pre-orders are due more to Bethesda than they are Obsidian

I'd buy it, but I'm poor, and I haven't even beaten FO2 yet

It was said best on an IGN podcast that either two things happened with AP. 1. They were working on it when someone walked in and said that they were making New Vegas and one person said "FALLOUT!! !" and everyone stopped working on the game. Or, 2. Everyone who was working on Alpha Protocol wasn't allowed to work on New Vegas.

I think Xenu has a valid concern.

I vowed to never buy another product associated with Lucas Arts or Obsidian after the abortion of KOTOR II.

The only thing powerful enough to make me break my vow is the idea of a new Fallout game made by the 'original crew'...

Obsidian definitely has quality issues, but they can do good work. Apparently they did alright with Neverwinter Nights... (never played the games)

Two things make me hopeful that FNV will turn out okay:

1) FNV is built on the Fallout 3 engine with just a few changes. Hopefully, this means there won't be too many technical problems.

2) The guys working on FNV made their names (to the extent that they have 'names') by creating the Fallout franchise.... Surely that's powerful motivation to get this one right.

PS

Anyone in Dallas 8-12 to 8-15 can play Fallout: New Vegas at Quakecon.

I wish I could get out of work this weekend!

Bethesda has already revealed the VO cast and it includes Zachary Levi (Chuck) Ron Perlman as the intro narrator, Matthew Perry, Wayne Newton, etc...

This is the one thing that makes me nervous about New Vegas :?

when I bought my LAST PC GAME SYSTEM, about 18 months ago, I bought a gateway I7 with a good ATI video card along with Fallout 3 and Mass Effect....

Mass effect was unplayable.... But Fallout 3 played fine on ultimate settings.

I''m too old to dick around with unfinished software. I have to say, Fallout 3 is the closest thing to a finished game I've seen on the PC in a long time!! !

Fallout 3 is stable and pretty. The only area which needs work is the actor AI. Aside from that, everything is set design and scripting, which is largely engine independent.

You want another reason to buy this game?

Wayne Newton is going to be the radio DJ in the game along with several other famous voice actors.

OT; I've already pre-ordered the deluxe edition on PC, so it was only 10 dollars more if I had just bought a normal copy for my ps3
