I think there may be a point on female/ male sub catagory AS.
Unlike alot of folks with AS, I dont have trouble with non verbal communication, nor sarcasm, nor pruducing non verbal communication. I am also female. What I do have alot of trouble with is other issues of overstimulation, occasional meltdowns, anxiety, stimming constantly, talking with strangers..I dont like to. learning problems expecially in math and spelling as you can see. I have alot of sensory problems.
but the actual communicating is not as problematic as I heard males mentioning. I do have a hard time with getting the meaning of what someone is saying if what they are saying and what they mean are two different things. I call it speaking in code. It goes on alot living in the south east US. Heaven forbid folks just come out and say exactly what they mean
example of code speak: I went to a mud bog (for those who dont know what that is, it is an event where folks all over the state come to drive their trucks through a mud pit. Those who get through the 4 feet of mud, the fastest, win money, also included is mud wrestling, lots of beer, and some household furniture on the back of pick ups to watch they show in living room comfort)
Anyway I told this lady who ran a botique that I went to the elko mud bog last weekend.
She looked at me, smiled a wide grin and said isnt that just precious.
What that means is: You are such a redneck tramp, leave my presence.
precious is usually a code word in the south....for things looked down upon.
but there are many of these code speak in the south, that baffle me and most of the time I have no idea what someone is really saying. Sometimes it just makes conversation like solving detective cases. Usually, I do get it, but long after the conversation is over.
off the bunny trail...back to the survey. I would like to see the result after it is done
