I once knew an absolute witch (not the wiccan kind) who had ADHD. She was a lying, manipulative, two-faced waste of breath who caused trouble wherever she went. Of course, whenever she was called out on it, she would blame ADHD. And this was an adult, btw. I have not seen her in +10 years, and she remains my least favorite person on earth.

See, this is the kinda thing I despise. As if ADHD means could possibly excuse such behavior.

Sounds similar to a bipolar guy who "worked" at the same company as me. He delegated all his work ,bullied any one he could, lied, manipulated and kissed a$$ with management, but they protected him. Everyone knew he was a waste of oxygen but he was allowed to get away with it, partly because hewas a "creative" bipolar person, whothought differently to others  , and partly because he knew whoose a$$ to kiss

I know one who is a registered sex offender in my state (he had hundreds of pornographic images of children between the ages of 3-8) and probably a pedophile.

I guess that qualifes as an a**hole aspie.

Uh he is a pedophile. No one would want to see child porn or even want it. How can someone have it and not be a pedo?

Well....it's a long story. I've shared it before on WP and it's a bit too late to do so again now. Suffice it to say the guy basically swears he is innocent and he really believed the child porn videos someone sent him were just "like any other movies". I don't believe him, but the other members in the Asperger's support group he started seem to. Those members would include his live-in girlfriend btw. I only attended the group meeting once and after I heard about this, I never went back.

In any case....he MAY NOT be a pedophile if were going by strict DSM-IV technical criteria. I have no idea about all that.... but he's creepy enough.

I met this guy one time before I knew about his crimes. He was wearing a button-down shirt with Disney characters all over it. When I think of this shirt in light of what I now know about him, I am forced to believe he wears it because it might serve as a child magnet. 8O

My father had his moments.

I think...that I've had some, but I never intended to be a jerk. However, the effect is still the same.

Me a bit, my father a lot more, and the only person I know with AS [other than me and my father] is nice.

I can't draw any conclusions compared to "normal" people (vis-a-vis jerks to jerks), but I can say that almost all I've met in person have been jerks, and most on the 'net too.

I know 2 in real life, and plenty more than that on the internet.
I can be an a***hole myself sometimes, and so can anyone else.

I met few people who were using the disability card as a ticket to do whatever they want even if it has nothing to do with their condition being aspie or other.

It offends me more that they bring up having Asperger's than the fact that they're being as*holes because they make it harder for other respectable aspies to gain the respect they deserve in an already prejudiced world.

I'm sure qualify as that to some people. But I'd rather be that than "disabled"

Noone on this thread.

One IRL.

I think... there's a difference, both in reality and in effect, between setting out to hurt people and hurting people unintentionally or being forced to hurt people because of circumstances. The former does make someone a jerk, the latter does suck, but is a matter of circumstances and not a reflection of a person's character. I know that personally, the effect of the 2 situations on me is different.

I am uncertain what the collective definition of "as*hole" here on this thread exactly means, but I'm assuming it's a mean person. I don't use AS as an excuse (I try to be cognizant of that pitfall at least), but I have been called an as*hole on several occassions. I don't feel like a mean person and, generally, I want to be a likeable person because I have enough strikes against me, if you will, in a predominantly neurotypical world. But I suspect that some of my Aspergian traits have caused me to come off as an as*hole without there being any intentions on my part to inflict harm, pain, or insult. So I guess I'm an "as*hole Aspie" then?

Everyone is an as*hole some of the time, some people more often than others.
Concerning the use of autism as an excuse for rude or hurtfull behaviour, as mentioned in this thread I do sometimes wonder if that's the case. I don't think I do, but I've been made aware that certain members of my limited social circle believe I do.

Thats the thing, I dont use my AS as an excuse to be one. Its just my simple lack of caring about people that does it, as I feel people just get in my way 99% of the time. Its a bit difficult to explain exactly what I mean.

I think I understand.

When someone is percieved to be a rude and hurtfull person and doesn't show any remorse or shame for their actions, while being open about having a condition like AS, it's not uncommon for others to think this person is hiding behind their condition.

Often when I'm argueing with someone about my behaviour and bring up AS to clarify, I am immediately accused of "making excuses". Some people have trouble understanding the difference between an "explanation" and an "excuse".
