My dad thought that John would have been a good name for my sister.

I have something very strong against the name Lionel. Why I don't know. If I ever, ever, wanted kids(Which I do not at all) I would name them:

Boy

Blake Ryleigh

Girl

Petra Antonia

My first names and middle names never match up.

If I had a kid I would call him or her Rainbow Toilet III (The Revenge)

I read somewhere about a woman who wanted to name her son 's**thead', but pronounced 'Shuh-theed'. Then again, ghetto names are a whole category of their own

In a list of true names I have come across La'treen and Placenta.

That was a name in a movie. I forget which one

In France, among baby names forbidden by law courts, there was :
- Saddam Hussein (given to babies born during the 1st Gulf War)
- Megane : I know it's an English or American name, but in France this was unknown until a car brand used it to name one of its models, and giving a commercial name to a kid isn't well perceived by French authorities

Another name I have a problem with:

Claudette. It sounds like it's an old southern name.

It's an old-fashioned French name.

I also like the name Aleaga (not sure how to spell it but you hear it in the Baby can read commercial). It's pronounced "Uh-Lee-guh."

I looked it up and it's spelled Aleka.

What's the dumbest name you'eve ever come across? Mine would have to be Leyland (type of British car, it's really like calling your kid Skoda - not like calling them Mercedes or Porsche. Though a kid called Volkswagen would be funnier).

Would you give your child an 'unusual' name?

Also, the fact that Portugal has its own list of approved names is rather sad. That's going to the other extreme. I think there needs to be some intervention by the authorities, though not necessarily having a government department to deal with it (as in Germany). If it's an extremely stupid name it could be reported to the child protection services. I'm not sure what happens in the UK or in other countries not mentioned in that article.

In Denmark we have an approved list also. I don't see why that's sad. The American alternative looks far worse to me. :?
However, along the way new names can be added to that list.
We had a case some years ago where a mother wanted to name her son Christophpher. She won the case after 9 years.
Another thing is that there is fashion in names too. Thus some older names which never or hardly would be used in my generation, are used today, such as Amalie, Mathilde or Asta for girls, or Malthe, Laurids or Villads for boys.

I know a girl named Abcdefghij - pronounced ab-sid-ef-gee. You can imagine how often her name gets butchered. I don't think people should be required to choose from a list. Creative names are fine, but there ought to be a few rules in place to keep people from naming their kids Toothpaste or f?jnad!sf7.

I know someone who named her daughter Merlee, it's unusual but I like the sound of it. I knew a girl at junior school called Star, I love that name and there is a man who works at my college called Divine which is just awesome. There was a woman on come dine with me earlier called January, which is a cool name.
The second and third choices for my name before I was born were Naomi and Rihanna, they're not very unusual names but you hear them less often than my name Sophie. I really really wish my mum had chosen one of those other names, I think Rihanna is a cool name but Sophie is boooooring.
I like exotic or unique names but not silly ones, I like the names Savannah for a girl and Roman for a boy. When I have kids when I'm older I am SOOOOOOOOOOO choosing those names.

I love the name Roman since it's my last name.
I also really really really want to name my first born daughter Anna-Mae.
It's cute and it relates to something I love...
I once knew a Feather and her older sister Cree.
My cousin's daughter is Chaya (Sha-yuh) and it's pretty.
His son is Jaryn (Like Aaron but with a J) and I like it.
I also knew a boy named Patience.

I know a guy at my church named Dick, but he's an older fellow.

How did the name Dick come along in the first place?
Yes, I know it comes from the name Richard, of which the names Rich and Rick
are attributed with, but Dick?

Dick Van Dyke.

I knew a girl named Whisper but it's actually a Native American Name.

My mom once had a patient who had her baby and she gave her baby random letters. She picked her favorite letters and you couldn't even pronounce the baby's name. She was also illiterate and my mom said she wasn't very smart.
