The island was right in the heart of where the earthquake and tsunami hit. All the human inhabitants are alive, but there's likely a small amount of cat deaths. The buildings were badly damage. The big concern right now is getting food to the region, particularly food for the cats. I hope they do something soon before those poor kitties starve to death. :(

I'm having a bit of difficulty figuring out how to donate specifically to this and other cat-related (or animal-related) causes. If anyone can figure out where to donate specifically for the cats and their human companions on this island, please let me know.

I think that the cats are sweet, I saw a group of cats being fed by a fisherman on the film and another by a woman who put out food for them.
