I've also had a few friends completely leave the fandom because of the kinds of people that frequent FA. A large amount of them are nutjobs and/or perverted individuals. I'm not tempted to go on there.

Red fox here, as you can probably tell from my avatar.
I don't wear fursuits, nor do I go to cons, as none can be found nearby.
I do though enjoy anthropomorphic art, and have tried (unsuccesfully) to draw it in the past. Also I've organised a couple of furmeets in my city.

From what I can tell, a lot of people in the fandom that draw only started doing so when they got into the fandom, and yet they end up getting good at it. Keep on trying!

I don't have the guts to go to a con or hold a furmeet. I'm not that into the fandom to do so regardless. I'm much more of a sci-fi nerd :P . But from what I know, my town has the largest furry con in Florida. I highly doubt I'd ever attend.

Megaplex?
Our furmeets have been small – up to 13 attendees. It seems people have lately lost interest, sadly. I haven't, I would try to go to a con if there were one in this country.

I'll keep pracising now that I'm on vacation. I hope I do get good at it too.

I suggest drawing manually first and using programs like paint.net and gimp to try to get a feel for digital art. Then, once you feel you have a pretty solid foundation, get a Wacom tablet or something like that. That's what I'm doing. I didn't really draw until I got into the fandom. Then I started drawing birds, dholes, sharks, Velociraptors, etc. I don't draw anthros too much. I have a hard time drawing Humans as it is.

As for furmeets, I only know like two furries IRL so it wouldn't work. There is a furmeet in this town, but I am a bit wierded out by major furries, even if they aren't into yiff. The whole fandom can be kind of squicky for me for some strange reason. And the same thing goes for the local con which is actually an annual picnic rather than an actual con.

I'm closeted as a furry. My close friends knew that I once was a furry(which is true, I was one back around the time I joined this site) and understand that I got out of the fandom. None of them except anyone active on this forum knows that I am a furry now. I stopped being one for like a year and a half until very recently I just kind of decided it might be worth a try. I play a lot of FeralHeart as a jackal(because there are so few of them in the game) and that seems to be where most of my interactions with members of the fandom seem to occur. Here's my Jackal. Unfortunately, most people think I look like a German Shepard, albeit an abnormally small one, because it is quite hard to create a convincing Jackal with the tools given.

Probably the best documentary on precisely what the fandom is.

I prefer furry porn to not furry porn. The animals look much more real in the porn than in the regular art. In real life animals don't have missing parts so why should they in the anthropomorphic world?

My fursona, Zharek. He is a Black-Backed Jackal. This is a WIP and I aim to fix the head a bit and add more shadowing. I have a wacom tablet and Corel now, so it shouldn't be too hard. I didn't really care about drawing until I first gt into the fandom 2 years ago. I sucked a ton back then because I had little experience, no tools, and aspie clumsiness. I still suck now, but my lack of coordination is starting to dissipate because I play piano pretty much every day. I'm going to try doing lots of lineart and vector art as soon as finish the classes I have for virtual school(the only thing keeping me from fully enjoying summer vacation).

No. Furries are a subculture of people who have a fascination with animals in literature, animation, movies, and video games. The fandom is best known for fursuiters, or people who dress up in elaborate animal costumes, but most of them don't do this or can't do this.

I like furry art, but only if it's clean.

I've been drawing humanized cartoon animals ever since I was a little kid, having been heavily influenced by Disney and Looney Tunes and such. But all the negative stereotyping of furries ruins it. Also I guess I should be glad my characters aren't famous because I don't want to see them in fan art that's higher than a G-rating, or a PG-rating at least, depending on the characters, because they're like my children and seeing other people draw them in pornographic poses, swearing, and engaging in graphic violent behavior would be about as horrifying as a real parent seeing pictures of her real children like that on the internet.

One good thing about furries is that characters such as wolves aren't usually the stereotypical Big Bad variety, and cats aren't usually mean, heartless jerks.
