From what I can tell, a lot of people in the fandom that draw only started doing so when they got into the fandom, and yet they end up getting good at it. Keep on trying!
I don't have the guts to go to a con or hold a furmeet. I'm not that into the fandom to do so regardless. I'm much more of a sci-fi nerd
. But from what I know, my town has the largest furry con in Florida. I highly doubt I'd ever attend.
Megaplex?
Our furmeets have been small – up to 13 attendees. It seems people have lately lost interest, sadly. I haven't, I would try to go to a con if there were one in this country.
I'll keep pracising now that I'm on vacation. I hope I do get good at it too.
I suggest drawing manually first and using programs like paint.net and gimp to try to get a feel for digital art. Then, once you feel you have a pretty solid foundation, get a Wacom tablet or something like that. That's what I'm doing. I didn't really draw until I got into the fandom. Then I started drawing birds, dholes, sharks, Velociraptors, etc. I don't draw anthros too much. I have a hard time drawing Humans as it is.
As for furmeets, I only know like two furries IRL so it wouldn't work. There is a furmeet in this town, but I am a bit wierded out by major furries, even if they aren't into yiff. The whole fandom can be kind of squicky for me for some strange reason. And the same thing goes for the local con which is actually an annual picnic rather than an actual con.
I'm closeted as a furry. My close friends knew that I once was a furry(which is true, I was one back around the time I joined this site) and understand that I got out of the fandom. None of them except anyone active on this forum knows that I am a furry now. I stopped being one for like a year and a half until very recently I just kind of decided it might be worth a try. I play a lot of FeralHeart as a jackal(because there are so few of them in the game) and that seems to be where most of my interactions with members of the fandom seem to occur. Here's my Jackal. Unfortunately, most people think I look like a German Shepard, albeit an abnormally small one, because it is quite hard to create a convincing Jackal with the tools given.
