The stats work for my Masters started me on my Quant path and then training at the place where I worked at the time filled it out. There were a number of Math PhDs there who had time to take me through my lessons. It was an amazing experience actually.

What were the hours like?
And what was the work like? Did you need to respond to the market in real time like a regular trader, or did you produce mathematical models for others to use?

The hours were only bad at the end of the month. I was first testing models and then running the month end valuation models.

Others had Trading Desk demands so they would be up for trading or, sometimes, work overnight if they were valuing a big deal.
