I'm the exact opposite. Music helps me focus.

Usually music doesn't bother me, and I enjoy listening to it while doing other things, but sometimes when I really need to focus while reading something I have to stop the music.

Depending on the kind of music and what I'm doing, music can either distract me or help me focus.

Depending on the music, it can distract me from reading or writing. I generally listen to music that doesn't have lyrics when I must do either of those things. Also, talking sometimes.
It all depends.

It helps me to get things done when I am cleaning house, but it is too distracting when I am reading or writing. Songs with lyrics are especially distracting.

I mostly listen to music when travelling - on the bus/metro going somewhere or out walking - so I can focus on just the music. I'll occasionally listen to music on my laptop with my headphones in, if I do this then I cannot do anything else at the same time, I also have to have door closed and no risk of being interrupted so I can focus on the music alone.

I guess it is the same sort of thing, I don't try to do anything else because I cannot focus on anything else when focusing on music.

If you're "focusing" on something, you're not LISTENING to the music.

Eh... I am. I have a wandering mind, so it helps to have more than one thing to focus on.

That's not to say there aren't times where I just get lost in music.

No, having music to take care of the distracting thoughts in a repetitive form halps me in doing something else and not just dozing off.

Interesting...I just consider it sort-of disrespectful to the music/ian. And I also find that I can't PROPERLY concentrate on more than one thing at once. :(

The only things I can't do while listening to music, are read or play guitar :|. The guitar thing is that if I'm listening to a song, I can't concentrate on what I'm playing... so I can't play along to songs :(
