I do not drink alcohol. It has never appealed to me. I don't like the lifestyle that goes with it, either. Do girls not see a non-drinker as a real man? It has never been a big issue for me, but whenever the subject comes up, people just can't seem to get over the fact that someone doesn't want to drink.

I've always thought of it as the other way around, because of the way it was throughout history with the women behind the temperance movements. Although today, I know what you mean, it sure doesn't seem that way.

I think it depends on your area. A lot of the girls in my area love getting drunk & partying but I doubt it's like that everywhere

I don't drink and I'm a girl. I get the same reaction a whole lot. Even more so now that I'm 22 and people find out I've only had 1 alcoholic drink my whole life. When I hang out with friends they always ask me if it would bother me if they drink. I have to frequently reassure them that its not a moral thing and that its just not for me.

I kind of know what you're talking about. I'm a non-drinker myself, in Sweden at that, so I get a lot of...hypocrisy, mostly. I've never been good at making friends. When I tell people I don't drink, they first act impressed and say that's very sensible, and then they don't want to hang out with me. People tend to assume, at least here, that fun cannot exist without alcohol. Or that pain and boredom can't be ignored without alcohol. Maybe both of those things. And as a result, my impressive non-drinkingness makes me a perfect candidate for not hanging out with. People think "Weekend...gotta do something fun...alcohol", automatically, without considering the alternatives, regardless of how many times those alternatives may have been brought forth. It's unfortunate, but...yeah, I forgot where I was going with this, time to do some sleeping.

I think someone who stands by his own beliefs and opinions, rather than just going along with the crowd, is definitely 'a real man.' And, for what it's worth, I'm female and don't drink myself. Not everyone does and some of us have valid reasons for making that choice.

I don't see what is advantagous about drinking alcohol nor why it would make guys more appealing. I quite like the stuff myself but I can't say it's ever helped me out

My wife and I don't drink, and we have noticed people seem insulted when we do not drink with them. I think drinkers prefer the company of their fellow drinkers. Come to think of it, our two closest friends also don't drink so I think it goes both ways.

i don't care either way. i don't judge someone for not drinking but i expect the same courtesy - i don't want to be judged if i decide to drink.

i have to admit i am slightly suspicious of people who *never* allow themselves to be out of control in any small way, or who do not have any vices though.

I don't drink at all myself. Too many additives in the stuff. Disgusting. If someone doesn't like me for that, then so be it.

I'd find that wierd actually... Someone having a problem with my nondrinking attitude...

There are girls that have lots of bad past experiences with people that drink, whether that's with family members, exes, or other people in their life. The hard part is that there is no realistic way to spot them, other than they probably won't be at raves and nightclubs. I don't know if you are religious or not, but there are some girls who drink very little or not at all due to religious beliefs. But if you are not religious, a girl that won't drink due to religious convictions is highly unlikely to jump in the sack with you either.

not sure. i think that everyone needs to lose control in some little ways in order to stay sane, so if they keep themselves too tightly controlled i will wonder if there are control issues lurking there.

i've dated non-drinkers/smokers/etc though. it's just i tend to be a little suspicious at first if they are too "perfect"

makes sense.
