Also I wanted to state that I agree with Others that at age 17 internet censorship is completely Stupid and I have a felling that if your parents are that bad it may be even after you are 18.

My parents aren't that bad, seeing as they will look at any site that I want unblocked. That said, I don't want them to take too close a look at furaffinity or any site with PG13 content. They are hypersensitive and overprotective about the content I view. Good thing they don't look too carefully at the history recorded on the dns server (I delete the browser data). They don't even know I'm a furry.

TOR is AWSOME, Also Tom_Kakes there are options in programs like netnanny or OpenDNS is that Alot of times if Proxy Sites sections is set to restrict it will block TOR Also. But there may be a loophole there is another OpenSource Project useing Tor and FireFox called TorPark if you can get to google search TorPark and see if you can Download it, Stay with the portables to were if you have a USB thumb Drive or even a SD Card to put it on to those things.

Also I know and use deviantart and I do know that on my DNS Service I use is under Adult Themes but I know that the content on that site alot of it is restricted by your age when you have an account. So on my OpenDNS account I had to do Special Allowance for that site. I was thankful when I was little that my parents allowed me to be on AOL on General because I mainly used computer hours to Download Game Demos and other files like Midi files and WAVs

+1

Changing the name server would work too and offer no loss of speed. Infact opendns is probably faster than your isps name server. That said, it would be more difficult to hide the configuration changes from your administrator than using the tor browser bundle.

You're way too old for parental controls. I had them when I was 12, but they were removed when I was 13. Reading about parents who are this overprotective makes me upset. I was friends with someone with overprotective parents once. She was talking to me on AIM, then her dad got her off the computer and started yelling at me for talking to her. He assumed that just because she was talking to me on the internet, that I'm a serial killer pedophile or something.

Maybe they don't want you to waste time pursuing social acceptance on web sites that tend to reward non social behavior. Or maybe they are secretly closeted liberals with an eco-agenda trying to minimize your carbon footprint.

Facebook is in the news for tracking people's website visits even after logging out. Major privacy violation that you would then put everyone else using the same computer at risk. With friends like these who need hackers! Sucks, but hey, parents that love their children are in short supply. Maybe get a library card and access those sites there and show your parents that its not a big deal and you can handle it.

Maybe get a linux CD and use that with the computer? Think you'd have complete control then...

Unless the blocking is implemented on the router. OP hasn't said what/where it is yet.

17 is too old for that. He's almost an adult.

Get and iPod and browse from there, it has an awesome browser.
Better yet, kill your dad, stab him with your iPod!
Ask the password before btw.
If you need porn, just go buy a mag.
Censorship is stupid.
If you want to talk with gay serial killer clown pedophiles you are free to do so, it's your American right®.
Honestly, when you are 18 I hope you go study abroad far away from them.
Your dad loves you, you just don't get it now, you will someday.

Wow that must suck! my parents gave up on my and my computer when i was around 11, got my own PC since 13. How i got my own PC? talking

I talked to my mother, she talked to my dad, they discussed the implication it would give but the pros outweighted the cons! Even though i only played WoW at that time they were happy (i told them WoW is a very social game)

At the age of 17, you should just tell them you`re nearly adult and want to browse the internet uncensored. If they`re reasonable they`ll lift the restrictions.

It is on the DNS server. You know, the server that converts domain names to IP addresses. Or is it vice versa?

And thank heaven I don't use facebook. Ever.

Anyway, I'm not interested in viewing adult content. Just art sites, which are almost always blocked by these stupid internet censorship stuff. FA and deviantart. And youtube, which is also blocked. I have a furaffinity profile.

So far, the only thing that has worked is taking my computer to a wifi hotspot that isn't censored. Even the internet at the religious private school I go to is more reasonable. FA isn't even censored on it.

Talking to my parents won't work. Tried that.

Both.
Does that mean your parents are running a home server? Otherwise, it implies the filtering is done by some ISP-provided service (feasible).
Unfortunately each is outside your control.
[ETA: of course it could be done on your domestic router too. Not necessarily anything to do with DNS]

Indeed - you just want to view what you want to view.

And without access to whatever is doing the filtering, that's about your only option: get your connection through something else which isn't filtering the content you want to see.

If you know what software and hardware is doing the filtering, it would be easy to find a way around it.

My parents don't censor my internet access. They can't. I control the modem and router settings, because they don't know what the heck they're doing. 8)

But, in your case, this is probably true.
